ros-robotics-companies's Issues

What is FANUC doing on this list?

Just curious. They're listed under Active Companies, but the entry then links to ros-industrial/fanuc and the ROS Wiki entry for the same repository/package(s).

As the readme of that repository makes very clear, there is no FANUC involvement at all there. More accurately, FANUC has not provided any support for their customers using ROS. It's all community, and it always has been.

I haven't checked what the requirements/criteria are for a company to be listed here, but AFAICT, FANUC should be removed.

Criteria for companies to appear on this list?

After #70 caught my eye, I went over the list a bit more and noticed there are some entries which are at least debatable (#71, #72, #73).

I'd like as much as anyone here to see as many companies listed as possible, but it does seem like it would only be really valuable if the list is accurate and honest.

The readme states:

A public list of companies that are known to use the Robot Operating System (ROS and ROS 2) or any of its related tools for development, to create products or to offer services.

the most important word here is probably known.

In the case of the issues I raised, I'm wondering whether the 'source data' used to justify a specific company being on the list was sufficient or even made sense. The references at the end of the document help, but in quite a few cases there are none, while some bold statements are made ("X uses ROS in product Y", "X supports ROS", "X makes use of ROS in Y", etc).

Would it be an idea to more clearly state the criteria used when determining whether a company could/should appear on the list? This could help avoid things like #70, #71, #72 and #73.

Correct phrasing "company X uses Y in Z" (Manipulation section)

As mentioned in #74 (and examples in #73 and #72), the phrasing

The company uses the ROS Manipulation stack (MoveIt) in X

appears in quite a few places in the list, specifically the Manipulation section.

For at least the companies where references are made to repositories under the ros-industrial GitHub organisation, none of these claims are correct.

This could be just the exact wording of the sentence, so perhaps just rephrasing it to something like "there are configuration packages for MoveIt available for the product of company Y" would be more correct. But I guess that wouldn't work, as it would put the bar very low for companies to appear on the list.

Remove KUKA from manipulation (or at least correct the phrasing)

Similar to #70, #71 and #72.

KUKA appears twice on this list: once as a company (which was updated as part of #70) and once under Manipulation.

Current description:

The company uses the ROS Manipulation stack (MoveIt) in the LBR/LWR

and then a reference to ros-industrial/kuka_experimental.

There is indeed a MoveIt configuration for the LBR in that repository, but is this sufficient to state "the company uses"? KUKA definitely doesn't use anything but KUKA-developed software in/with/on their LBRs (nor any of their robots).

If the only evidence of "use" is again a package in a community supported OSS repository, I would suggest to remove KUKA from the Manipulation list there.

Being able to sort by country/region

Hi,

It would be great to be able to see what country/countries the company is present in, so that we can potentially search for employment based on geographical area of residence.

A more concise example of such a use case would be - I am currently in France, so it would be very interesting for me to see companies that based in France/EU rather than sift through a global list of companies, and then finding out if I can apply to them or not.

I really admire the work that has been done, thanks a lot for this ! ๐Ÿ˜€

Request.

Hello ,good morning this is not an issue . Just a request for a company to be added to the list of ROS robot .At Islington Robotica, we primarily focus on Robotics, Automation and Information Technologies. We build beautiful and intuitive software with semi-autonomous machinery to serve the people and their industries. Robotics is in an industry quite different from any other and so our goal is to complement and add value with a fleet of service and utility Robots / Cobots. Our mission is to build beautiful and intuitive semi autonomous machinery to serve the people and their needs . We want to create harmony between humans and humanoid technology also ground robots (A.M.R) to create a world that works. We use Ros for our Navigation system as well as for tsome aspect of control also we have integrated some A.I technology to our robots . Our primary goal is to make life easier and reduce the arduous tasks from our day-to-day routines.

You can check out our website - www.islingtonrobotica.com

Remove Robotiq

Similar to #70, I'd suggest removing Robotiq.

Yes, there are many, many, community supported, ROS drivers, URDFs and other integrations available, but Robotiq as the company does not support any of them (directly).

Even ros-industrial/robotiq is 'just' a community project. Robotiq has indicated at a number of instances they have no interest in maintaining nor offering any ROS support for their products. See again the readme.

If the only evidence of use-of/support-of ROS was the fact ros-industrial/robotiq exists, the Robotiq entry on this list should be removed.

Remove STAUBLI

Similar to #70 and #71: STAUBLI should not be on this list.

ros-industrial/staubli, ros-industrial/staubli_experimental and ros-industrial/staubli_val3_driver are purely community projects.

There is no involvement of nor support from STAUBLI directly.

If the only evidence of use-of/support-of ROS was the fact ros-industrial/staubli exists, the STAUBLI entry on this list should be removed.

Adding a new company

Hello sir,
I am working as a robotics intern at @flomobility, FloMobility is a robotics company, which specialized in camera-based autonomy platforms which can be integrated with any vehicle. We are currently working on autonomous lawn mowers which use ROS for the majority of its application such as differential_drive, cameras, battery state, PID Controls, pose_base_controller, apriltag detection and much more. I wanted to add our company to this list of companies since they were arranged alphabetically. How do I make a pull request for the same? please help me out. We use ROS noetic and would also use ROS2 foxy in future
