Intel Robot DevKit

1. Introduction

Intel Robot DevKit is the tool to generate Robotics Software Development Kit (RDK) designed for autonomous devices, including the ROS2 core and capacibilities packages like perception, planning, control driver etc. It provides flexible build/runtime configurations to meet different autonomous requirement on top of diversity hardware choices, for example use different hareware engine CPU/GPU/VPU to accelerate AI related features.

After build, the RDK is installed on Ubuntu18.04 with below items on development machine for further development.

  • ROS2 core
  • ROS2 Object Analytics(OA) with RealSense(RS) camera
  • ROS2 OpenVINO for people detection
  • Gazebo 9 with Gazebo-ros2 simulator
  • ROS2 navigation
  • rviz2
  • ROS2 tutorial for Intel components

Hardware Requirements

  • Intel NUC (CPU: Intel i7-6700HQ @2.60GHz, Mem:16G) or ADLink Neuron Board
  • Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick 2
  • Intel RealSense D400 Series, Intel RealSense T265

Robot support

  • Turtlebot 3 Waffle

System Requirements

  • We support Ubuntu Linux Bionic Beaver 18.04 on 64-bit. We not support Mac OS X and Windows.

2. How to use

Please refer to Intel ROS2 Project Tutorial for more details.

robot_devkit's Issues

Intel Realsense T265 camera not working on demo example

I am working on projects with two intel camera ( D435i and T265)

after installing robot_devkit when i play demo for both camera

D435i camera works but T265 camera not working , it gives error that device is not connected ( File name :T265_Error.txt )
which gives in details.
T265_Error.txt

my realsense-viewer command works for both camera ,

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (Bionic)

Installation of Intel-ros2 on ubuntu (Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS)(RDK)

Hi friend! I'm trying to install the Intel-ROS2 project while it's easier to work with my D455 camera and L515 camera, I saw it herelink
And I found this document
, when I followed the steps in 'Installation' step by step to run the command in Ubuntu18.04 (kernel version: Linux4.15) terminal, I found that in my rdk_ws folder there is a missing file called Subfolder of 'turtlebot3_ws'.
I don't know if this is because my system version is too low, I would like to ask if you have understood it, and if you know how to deal with this situation.

When I run this commend./demo/rdk_install.sh ,the terminal prompt fails with this message
Err:4 http://realsense-hw-public.s3.amazonaws.com/Debian/apt-repo bionic InRelease 403 Forbidden [IP: 52.218.46.73 80]

When I switch back to manual and enter [./rdk.sh sync-src --force]
[2022-03-27 13:27:36][sync_src.sh:84][WARN] /home/mrmoe/robot_devkit-master/packages/turtlebot3/repos directory does not exist

When I run the commendsudo apt-get update, the following information will be displayed:
Failed to fetch http://realsense-hw-public.s3.amazonaws.com/Debian/apt-repo/dists/bionic/InRelease Could not connect to realsense-hw-public.s3.amazonaws.com:80 (52.218.65.73), connection timed out
When I followed the prompts to find the files I needed, I found that there was no corresponding file in the folder, and there seemed to be no the file in the robot_devkit folder in the repository.
thanks

people_msgs fails to build

I ran the installer by following the installation instructions:

robot@nuc-i7:~/robot_sdk$ ./products/tb3/tb3_install.sh

Over an hour later I see it failed building the people_msgs package:

I couldn't find where the following error was raised.

# Related to D455
[realsense_node-4] what(): expected [integer] got [double]

I think the following was raised in librealsense

# Related to T265
[realsense_node-3]   what():  Couldn't resolve requests
std::multimap<int, std::shared_ptr<stream_profile_interface>> map_streams(const device_interface* dev) const
{
    std::multimap<int, std::shared_ptr<stream_profile_interface>> out;
    std::set<index_type> satisfied_streams;

    // Algorithm assumes get_adjacent_devices always
    // returns the devices in the same order
    for (size_t i = 0; i < dev->get_sensors_count(); ++i)
    {
        auto&& sub = dev->get_sensor(i);

        auto default_profiles = map_sub_device(sub.get_stream_profiles(profile_tag::PROFILE_TAG_SUPERSET), satisfied_streams, dev);
        auto any_profiles = map_sub_device(sub.get_stream_profiles(profile_tag::PROFILE_TAG_ANY), satisfied_streams, dev);

        //use any streams if default streams wasn't satisfy
        auto profiles = default_profiles.size() == any_profiles.size() ? default_profiles : any_profiles;

        for (auto p : profiles)
            out.emplace((int)i, p);
    }

    if(_requests.size() != out.size())
        throw std::runtime_error(std::string("Couldn't resolve requests"));

    return out;
}

The error occurs when hardware serial numbers are correct.

The script is able to open a node for D435 as you can see in the graph below.
ros2_slam_rqt_graph

What have I done?

Not much. Any pointer would be nice :)

Can I use a PC instead of the NUC/AD Link Neuron Board?

Here [https://intel.github.io/robot_devkit_doc/pages/install.html] it says I need an "x86_64 computer with the 6th CPU or above running Ubuntu 18.04". I am not sure what "6th CPU or above" means. In the README.me it says I need a NUC or an AD Link Neuron Board. How can I check if my Laptop is okay to use?

Got an error when using automated installation

OpenVINO (Model Optimizer) Illegal Instruction when intalling Robot Devkit

Hi,

I am currently working on installing the Intel robot devkit on a fresh UP squared board (Intel Celeron N3350 (no AVX2 if that may be a problem), 4 GB DDR4) with a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. (I got an Intel RealSense D435i as well, but not connected yet.)

All I have done so far is installing git and protobuf and then downloading and installing the sdk as described here: https://intel.github.io/robot_devkit_doc/pages/install.html
All I have done after installation is fully summed up with the following commands:
sudo apt-get install git libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler
git clone https://github.com/intel/robot_devkit.git
cd robot_devkit
./demo/rdk_install.sh

At one point in the installation routine (as part of the openvino installation), the tensorflow modeloptimizer throws an 'Illegal Instruction' which I can not solve.

Issue Description

Hi, I am following the tutorial form: https://intel.github.io/robot_devkit_doc/pages/install.html

Executing the following commands:
git clone https://github.com/intel/robot_devkit.git
cd robot_devkit
./demo/rdk_install.sh

But as a result I got:
E: Unable to locate package librealsense2-dkms

Also tried with manual installation and no result. I would like to follow the tutorial "RealSense™ for SLAM and Navigation" or how can I use RealSense for SLAM and navigation?

I am developing a custom robot.

Is it possible to install the DevKit without having the Movidius Stick?

Hi. We want to use Intel® RealSense™ D400 Series and Intel® RealSense™ T265 to perform SLAM and navigation (using ROS2 Cartographer and ROS2 Navigation2) with our robot.
Is the Intel® Movidius™ Neural Compute Stick 2 necessary to perform these tasks? I can see it is a requirement for the Robot DevKit, but is it possible to only install the parts of the devkit not depending on the movidius stick?

Please remove navigation2 information from robot_devkit_docs: it is outdated and causing misinformation

The pages here (https://intel.github.io/robot_devkit_doc/pages/navigation.html) appear in the top of google searches for navigation2, but they are woefully out of date.

Navigation2 has its own documentation now (https://ros-planning.github.io/navigation2/) and it covers the current state of the stack. The warnings listed on your page are no longer true and will cause misinformation to new users. I've had a few people already contact me confused due to this.
