Second player controller not working

This mod is great and I was having a great time playing with my kid, but, right now, I'm facing strange behavior. I downloaded the latest version at the beginning of July and added it to my Steam Deck. I tried it two times in Halo Reach and everything was working fine. Then, I tried to run it yesterday and I could not control the second player. I have two xbox controllers and only the first one connected can control the player. I can change the order of controllers by connecting them in a different order, but the issue remains the same. I got the third controller, but nothing changed.
I thought that maybe this was something Steam Deck related, so I've installed Halo MCC on my Windows 10 PC, and installed the latest VC redist but the same thing happened - can't control the second player. Even if I choose to use a keyboard and mouse, the first controller can't control the second player. However, I've observed one thing - just as the second player appears, sometimes I can see the third-person view for like 3 seconds, and then the controller works (I can move the camera). As soon as the camera switches to first-person view, it stops working. Also, when I press the view button, the list of players appears and I can use the right stick to select rows. So it seems the second player window receives the input, but is in some strange state where I can't control the player.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hosts kicked when doing online co-op campaign/firefight (Steam and MS Store)

A friend and I tried hosting a 5-player session for a co-op campaign (4 players on mine using MS, single player for him using Steam). We're able to join each other's lobby and start a mission, however when the loading bar finishes it disconnects both of us. We both have the latest version of the mod and are able to play just fine if it's only the two of us without splitscreen. Oddly enough we were able to host a group using custom multiplayer with all 5 of us perfectly, it's only when we tried to do a campaign or firefight that the level wouldn't start.

Is there a way to connect to each other or do we need to both be using the same version of the game?

Splitscreen Not Working

The mod was working fine for Reach. I uninstalled it and downloaded CE. And it doesn't work. I tried it with Halo 2 and it doesn't work there either. I've tried everything from verifying files to removing AlphaRing and adding it back. Nothing. I'm not sure where it's going wrong.

My 2 controllers work when I enable splitscreen but there's only one player. And both controllers control the one player.

Issues when using Xbox Controllers on Steam Deck atleast

I noticed when I tried to play both Halo Reach and Halo CE on a steam deck displayed to a TV using two wireless Xbox controllers that I could not get player 1 controller to work when I had a split screen active with player 2.

I could not get it to work to be able to play.

I couldn't get the "mouse" to select the mod menu to work using the controller until I tapped the touch screen on the steam deck (maybe this is what would lead to the problems later). Once loading in player 2 and starting a campaign only player 2 could move with 2nd controller selected for them. I could not move player one with player one controller selected. But, if I tapped the steam deck screen it would fire the weapon and move around where tapped on screen. However, when opening back up the mod menu the 1st player controller would move the mouse. Once removing player 2 or having player 2 use player 1 controller it would then work. But, player 1 controls in game would not work with another split screen second player.

How to enable Rumble Support? (Windows)

Hi, I was able to get the mod running. However, no rumble when firing weapons. Rumble is turned on via MCC's menu. Is there something I'm missing or rumble support isn't added yet? Thanks.
Edit: I think rumble is only working correctly for player 1

General Questions regarding the mod

  • Do multiplayer customization options work for multiplayer? Working on a machinima and this would be a game changer, but I wasn't sure if customization worked
  • Do PlayStation controllers work alongside Xbox controllers for the mod? I have 3 Xbox controllers, and one PS5 controller.
  • Am I able to play online customs as well as locally with the mod? (As in, 4 player split screen on my end, in an online custom game with a friend who's on a different PC?)
  • Does theater mode work all the same with the split screen enabled?

H4 campaign crashing with 4 player co-op

Played all the campaigns* with 4 player co-op seamlessly as advertised by the author. However, Halo 4 always crashes when trying to do 4 player local co-op. In the other games, we could load into the games with the 4 player split screen set up during the menu select screen. H4 required us to load into the game proper before we loaded in additional players, otherwise the game would not load or the other players would not show up.

Going straight to 4 players crashes the game immediately with an error message saying, "Fatal Error!" with no additional information. In the first mission, after being released from the hatch by Cortana, we can add players one at a time and the game would play perfectly fine. But, as soon as we add a fourth person, the game crashes with the error.

Is this a known issue? Is there something specific we need to do to fix this or work around it? Is there a setting I might have enabled without knowing that's causing the crash?

*Notable exceptions being the H1A and H2A campaigns with updated graphics. We did play through the two campaigns with original graphics seamlessly.

Can only see 2 player's screens on Steam Deck...

So I am playing the mod on my steam deck and when I play with more than 2 players I cannot see their screens. Do I have to change my display settings or is this a bug?

This is the same for both gaming and desktop mode. Amazing mod btw!

Temp fix: The 3rd and 4th player screens appear when playing on original graphics.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon because the Halo 2 anniversary graphics are great.

Also noticed that in Halo 2, in the level The Arbiter, 2 of the 4 players spawn very far away.

Support Split Screen Across Multiple Displays

This may be a strange ask. Imagine I have two monitors and I want to run splitscreen. Perhaps I want player one on monitor one and player two on monitor two. Is this currently possible. If not, is it feasible to support?

Please help, Cannot change teams

When playing multiplayer "pvp" I'm having an issue where if anyone on either PC (2x PC LAN) trys to swap teams from red to blue or visa versa the game locks up on the PC where the team switch was attempted.

Is there a work around or is this a know. Issue?

failure to play 3 player splitscreen with 1 friend joining us via online (steam)

so we tried to play cursed halo 1 with 4 people yet it keeps disconnecting us before it finishes loading, even when we try regular halo 2 it does the same, we know it's not internet problem so what could be causing this? it loads fine with me and my 2 mates splitscreening it but we just can't get our other friend in too :( any advice?

Changing P2's team, in forge or MP, causes a lock up.

I'm trying to use this to test the maps I make with forge. When I try to change teams the game locks up. It kinda keeps the blur of the background but the menu disappears.
Would there be a way to select teams with the pop up menu beforehand?

Player 2 L2/LT trigger freezing game

Thanks for the mod, this has been crazy fun. Just having a small issue where when player 2 uses LT in the campaign it simultaneously switches between classic and remastered and freezes the game. Pausing and unpausing resolves the issue. Current workaround has been remapping the grenade button, but the trigger still causes freezing.

Hook failed to initialize (Lutris)

Hi, I've been trying to get the mod to work via Lutris/Wine but it wouldn't work; the menu works and I can toggle it with F4 but nothing more, console output marks no error with the mod at least since v1.0.87 but still a message pops up with "Alpha Ring: Hook failed to initialize"

Bug after chapter end

Although the subtitles are in Korean, you can see the subtitle of the next chapter intro while loading).

The bug occurs after the chapter ends.
To be precise, when a chapter ends, whether it's 2p, 3p, or 4p, the loading part of the next chapter ‘sounds’ only the intro cutscene to the next chapter and doesn't progress any further. (It also slows down the loading speed significantly).
Sometimes it works fine, but this bug happens all the time at first. and pressing Save/Exit will reload the same chapter too.

The build I took this video on is a test build, but I'm currently on 1.0.85 (release) and the same thing is happening.
(I thought it was only happening on Steamdeck, but it's also happening on my desktop).

Additionally, in test builds, when Halo 3, ODST, etc is currently on 3P, the HUD or on-screen graphics are blurry like the 360 version on a 1P screen.

Perhaps the blurry description of the HUD makes sense if the screen split of 2P and 3P in Halo 3, ODST, and REACH was forced to stretch to remove the black bars on either side of the 1P.
but, REACH's 1P screen has a clean HUD and is well resolved.

A few bugs / glitches (and helpful improvements!)

This is just to help you out in anyway, and hopefully can be improved on because i'm in love with it!

  1. Halo CE / POA - First player is stuck in the cyrotube until you hit a load zone to teleport them. Mission also crashes at the end in co-op (more often with 3 or 4)
  2. Whenever you "Save/Quit" it will bring you back to an infinite loading screen in all the Halo games. This happens sometimes.
  3. Halo CE (player 3 and 4) get stuck in Pelican missions, and often have to resort to dying or waiting for the next load zone. This isn't an issue on your part, its just made for 2 players, so it would be great if its possible to let them spawn somewhere.
  4. No Vibration for everyone. I think only one person gets it and it resets / changes when you pause.
  5. Keybinds / Sensitivity would be super helpful.
  6. Keyboard support in co-op would be awesome (Optional, not necessary but if a friend doesn't have a controller, it would be beneficial.
  7. Missions will crash into the next mission (similarly to POA) it did this in CE for Cursed Halo, Silent Cartographer ending)

For {3.} Okay so I figured out how to get out of the Pelican, It's 'RB' on Xbox and 'E' as default controls.

I will let you know if there's any more i come across or if i missed any! but keep up the great work.

Issues with alternate aspect ratios

When playing 2 player splitscreen on Halo 3, Reach, and 4 in 4:3, the letterbox bars still show up unlike on the original console.

Also in Halo 4, the HUD is cut off in 4:3 and 5:4.

DS4 Touchpad input controlled by player 2 affects player 1's view

I only have one controller so I can only test it with the one, but when controlling player 2 with a DualShock 4 controller, if player 2 swipes left or right on the DS4 Touchpad, player 1's view rotates left and right, but not up and down. Also, it's very janky.

Pirated version crash

Hi i recently downloaded Halo The Master Chief Collection v1.3232 and used this mod on it but when i start the game it immediately crashes after 5 second on xbox intro.i downloaded redist and on description but it didn't work.is there a way to fix it?

Splitscreen Issues On Ultrawide Displays

Tested 4 player splitscreen on a 32:9 1440p ultrawide monitor. It works surpisingly pretty well considering ultrawide is not supported on Xbox where splitscreen is officially available.

So Halo 3, ODST, and Reach are about the same with the HUD looking like this:

Basically the HUD on both sides of the screen try to get shifted towards the middle.

Halo 2 classic is similar but the HUD is really smushed towards the middle:

As for Halo CE MP, the HUD just runs off the screen onto the other side:

H4 & H2AMP both have the same issue where the HUD is completely shifted and aligned to the right of the screen:

And as a bonus I also tested 2 player campaign splitscreen for H1A and H2A. Surprisingly H2A is perfectly fine in 2 player ultrawide splitscreen.

H1A the HUD is completely broken in both classic and anniversary graphics:

Overall I'd say ultrawide splitscreen worked better than I expected considering ultrawide splitscreen has never been possible before on any version of Halo for any platform.

Second controller (PS5) won't connect in windows version

My xbox controller connected fine as controller 1, but the second controller was unresponsive to all other 3 input options. Game froze when 'controller 1' was assigned to second player. Windows and steam (in the background) recognized the second controller just fine.

Mod doesn't add splitscreen / controller and mouse/keyboard stop working

I did everything the tutorial asked me to do, booted up the game and tried every halo. Split-screen won't add the other screens and its just "player 1" and sometimes i can't move at all.

Edit; I got the split-screen to work now, but I can't use keyboard/mouse or controllers in game. Can't pause, move, shoot, and have to force close the game

MCC Hook failed to initialize Steam ver

Same issue as an issue previously posted with a windows store executable, except mine is a steam version and does not work. It is cracked, but only because I do not like having to use store fronts and always be online. Could that be the reason that it does not work? Even cracked, it still emulates steam through a steam emu, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Any help would be appreciated

"AlphaRing:MCC Hook Failed to Initialize"

I'm using the Microsoft Store version and have the latest version of VS C++ as linked here. The .dll is in the right folder and I'm launching without EAC enabled. After opening there is a cmd prompt and a window saying "AlphaRing:MCC Hook Failed to Initialize". The mod appears to somewhat load as the UI bar is there, however when trying to connect controllers it doesn't appear to work in game and I can't control the mod menu with my controller (Controller Start + Controller Back works however to open it). Is there something I'm missing here or is it because I'm not using the Steam version? Is it even possible to use the MS version? This is the first time I've used mods on Halo so apologies if the answer is obvious.

Not loading game

Laod up game everything is fine until I try to play a game and start the game with a death screen with timer at zero and no buttons work have to alt f4 to get out.

Lighting glitches in halo reach splitscreen

In halo reach multiplayer (haven't tested campaign), there's lots of lighting issues, on the first person player model, weapon model and especially when zoomed in.

These issues occur only when using splitscreen.
My system is running Arch Linux, using Intel UHD 620 graphics and Proton 9.0-2.

Halo CE cutscene aspect ratio

Playing 2 player splitscreen on Halo CE, during cutscenes the aspect ratio is stretch vertically and zoomed in so you can't view the entire scene, potentially a bug?
Yet to try on other games.

Menu wont show up

Reisntalled vcredist, uninstall all of the previous vcredists, gui of menu still wont show up. Pauses the games input but the menu is not showing up.

H2A splitscreen broken

Hi,

Firstly, thank you for making this mod. You have no idea how happy I was to find it and make the possibility of playing with my partner possible. Why they didn't include this in the official release when all of the capability is there is insane.

Anyway... for the most part this mod is working flawlessly for me. However, I've found that H2A doesn't work as expected. See below:

It looks like player 2's camera is being stretched across the entire screen as the HUD for both players is still correct and present. I see a similar issue has been raised by someone on a steamdeck but this is on PC. Is this a known bug or am I finding something new?

Change Splitscreen Orientation for Ultrawide?

Probably a bit niche because of my monitor as I'm using an ultrawide (5120x1440), but wanted to know if it's possible to change the orientation of the splitscreen, so side to side rather than above and below? As at the moment I have 2 very wide but narrow views, where as if the orientation was changed to side to side we'd have a 16:9 screen each.

Feature Request: Client Players

It would be incredibly useful for anyone creating gametypes to be able to have client players in a session rather than splitscreen. The reason is because many modern gametypes use client code very heavily like Scarab City Apocolypse. Testing client code can only really be done with another player that is willing to join you strictly for testing your code. Usually they don't stick around very long since testing gametypes can get boring for them after a little while. It would speed up the process of testing if we were able to simply add a client player via a tool like this without being dependent on other players being online.

Feature Request: Mirrored Settings for Other Players

If customizing settings per player isn't possible, could it perhaps be possible to mirror the main player's settings instead? Control scheme, FoV and such, syncing across all the players. While it's much better if the other players could customize, this is a compromise that would at least create some parity and balance. This is most beneficial to those seeking the original experience as well, say for instance you've set your settings to mimic the original game. All the other players would experience the same, just as they remember it, as opposed to MCC's defaults.

Of course, if this is at all remotely possible, I believe it's best to leave it as another tickbox In the case that other players do prefer MCC's defaults instead.

Wife and I couldn't get it to work using nucleus. Thank you very much! This works perfectly. Can't wait to see how this turns out in the future. If you feel like tackling another one that should have included split screen on the PC port, we've been playing Saints Row the third using nucleus but it's far from perfect.

.) Have the program remember selections from the "Options" tab

.) Ability to customize your own hotkey for Wireframe

.) Ability to display a color behind the wireframe to make the lines stand out better, and or the ability to change the color of the lines.

.) Ability to change armor in theater mode.

.) Ability to create armor / presets, save them, and inject.

.) Trajectory prediction for all explosion types. Have it display where a crate object will end up depending on the explosion.
.) Ability to turn off slip surfaces.

.) Holding down on the d-pad on a menu in forge allows you to continuously scroll, but holding up doesn't allow you to do the same thing. It would be cool if that was fixed.

.) Make all objects physical.

.) Ability to push player look sensitivity up to 20.

.) Fix the falling speed when exiting forge monitor in Halo 3.

.) Shorten weapon grab delay.

.) Ability to disable terrain / decorations, inside the "Render" tab.

.) Make 30 tick visually appear like 60 tick to avoid the screen jitter issues.

.) Force multiplayer colors / armor in campaign.

.) Ghost jump indicator, the ability to highlight in wireframe where a ghost jump is possible.

Finishing any Halo 1 campaign level causes game to freeze with 4 players

Whenever I play with 4 players on Halo CE, the mod works pretty much flawlessly except near the beginning, where players can get locked in a room at the beginning until the next loading zone starts. But there is also another issue where finishing this level will cause the game to freeze, not allowing me to pause or access the AlphaRing menu.

Halo Mcc Crashing with 1.0.85

I installed 1.0.69 which includes only one dll file and works fine but there are bugs in which LT button freezes the game and when finishing a level in HALO 1 the game also freezes, so I downloaded the newest version to this day which includes the dll file plus a new pdb file I guess both files must be copied in the same folder location I did, but after 1 or 2 minutes the game just crashes, not sure if I´m doing something wrong with the new pdb file I´ve tried only placing the dll file and only the pdb file, nothing works, hope someone can tell me if it has the same issues or if it was able to solve it, thank for the amazing work you are doing Winter, we really appreciate it.

Workshop Support

Once we have a fully stable split-screen release (dev builds seem pretty close), any chance this could be released on Steam Workshop to make this more intuitive for the less technically knowledgeable folks?

2nd player controller settings

How do we change the sensitivity and button layout for additional players? Can't pull up the pause menu with secondary controller. We are playing Halo 3. thank you

WTSAPI32.dll does not run MCC.

I installed Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and put the file in Halo The Master Chief Collection\MCC\Binaries\Win64
but it won't run. I tried with EAC turned off, but it still doesn't work.
I tried deleting the WTSAPI32.dll file and running MCC and it works fine. I am using Windows 11 in Korean.
