chocolatey-packages's Issues

pycharm-community: old versions not removed when upgrading

Expected Behavior

When I upgrade packages with choco upgrade all, I'd expect old versions of PyCharm to be removed.

Current Behavior

Old versions of PyCharm still exist on the system after upgrading.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. choco install pycharm-community --version=2020.2.1
  2. choco upgrade pycharm-community

The newest version (2020.2.2) is installed, but 2020.2.1 is not uninstalled. I do see a warning message "WARNING: pycharm-community has already been uninstalled by other means", indicating that Chocolatey has detected some problem with the install perhaps? I haven't touched the manual (un)install, and haven't even opened PyCharm at this point.

Context

It's a mild inconvenience - I have to manually remove old versions each time.

Apologies - I know this is a duplicate of #5, but I didn't get any response on that one.

Your Environment

(icloud) fails with error 1603

choco install -y icloud fails with error 1603

Expected Behavior

  • Install completes without errors
  • Add Remove Programmes (ARP) includes the entries iCloud 7.21.0.23 as well as App Support and Bonjour mentioned below
  • Start Menu includes an iCloud folder with 11 icons such as Calendar, Contacts etc
    • I am unclear whether there should be a Start Menu Apple Software Update entry and an ARP item Apple Software Update 2.6.3.1

Current Behavior

  • Error during install, even though the wrapper accepts the 1603 error
    • See below for the errors output by choco onto the console
  • The icloud software is not installed by the choco package, it appears that the MSI undoes all the changes
  • Non of the signs of the app are present in Start Menu, and ARP only contains Apple Application Support (64-bit) 8.7 and Bonjour 3.0.0.10

Possible Solution

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Fresh install of Windows 10 out of the box
  2. finish all updates and restarts required
  3. Install chocolatey
  4. Install the choco apps: choco-upgrade-all-at-startup zoom skype skype-disable-updates-winconfig - I don't know if these were necessary but I'm telling you what I did
  5. choco install -y icloud --force --install-arguments="'/l*v c:\iCloud_msi_install.log'"
  6. See resulting chocolatey log at https://pastefs.com/pid/243674 and msi log at https://pastefs.com/pid/243665

Context

Possible Solution

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. choco install icloud -y -f

Context

This error does not occur with the iCloudSetup.exe

Your Environment

  • Package Version used:

  • Operating System and version: Windows 10 v1809, 1903
  • Chocolatey version: .10.15

pycharm-community doesn't remove older versions when upgrading

Hi, it seems this package, when upgrading, doesn't remove older versions, so at present I already have three versions installed on my PC :-). I think this is unintended, and should be corrected, no?
I presently have versions 2018.3.1 x64, 2018.3.2 x64, 2018.3.3 x64 installed, just by issuing "choco upgrade all -y" on a regular base.

Thanks for looking into this!!

mongodb is not added it to env:path

Expected Behavior

Possible Solution

Either of the following

  • Add "%ProgramFiles%\MongoDB\Server\4.0\bin" to env:Path
  • Add mongo.exe and mongod.exe and mongos.exe to "%AllUsersProfile%\chocolatey\bin"

Context

Is there a problem with adding it or is it intentional?

Your Environment

  • Package Version used:4.0.9
  • Operating System and version:Windows 10 Home 1809
  • Chocolatey version:0.10.11

(samsung-magician) Wrong checksum for version 6.1.0

Expected Behavior

The install should succeed without errors.

Current Behavior

The installation process throws the following error:

Checksum for 'C:\Users\fough\AppData\Local\Temp\chocolatey\samsung-magician\6.1.0\samsung-magicianInstall.zip' di
d not meet '9daeed4fdd5b4492442c706ee71d305b00824e716415fb616235e00174403dfd' for checksum type 'sha256'. Consider passi
ng the actual checksums through with --checksum --checksum64 once you validate the checksums are appropriate. A less sec
ure option is to pass --ignore-checksums if necessary.
The upgrade of samsung-magician was NOT successful.
Error while running 'C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\lib\samsung-magician\tools\chocolateyInstall.ps1'.
See log for details.

Then fails.

Possible Solution

Fix the link to point to the new files and fix the checksum.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Install Samsung Magician 6.0.0 through Chocolatey
  2. Update to version 6.1.0
    OR
  3. Install Samsung Magician 6.1.0, as I would imagine this would produce the same error.

Context

Your Environment

  • Package Version used: 6.1.0
  • Operating System and version: Windows 10, 1909
  • Chocolatey version: 0.10.16
  • Install/uninstall gist:

(firefox-nightly) is broken

Expected Behavior

Mozilla only gives one locale for Firefox Nightly: en-US. So the package should download the file firefox-70.0a1.en-US.win64.installer.exe and not firefox-70.0a1.fr.win64.installer.exe.

Current Behavior

The package tries to download a version with another locale (and this version doesn't exist). The package should not look for a locale and instead always use en-US because it is the only option. The installation will fail with an Error 404: Not Found.

Possible Solution

A temporary solution I have currently is adding --params "l=en-US" when installing/upgrading the package. However, this doesn't work with choco upgrade all. The optimal solution is to remove the locale variable that the package uses.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Use chocolatey on a computer that isn't configured in English (United States)
  2. Install or Upgrade firefox-nightly (choco install firefox-nightly --pre)
  3. Accept the installation script and wait for the error message (404)

Context

The issue affects the upgrade all command because firefox-nightly needs to be installed/updated manually. Because it is a nightly version, there's a new version everyday and doing it manually everyday loses a feature of a package manager.

(wireshark) install fails on AppVeyor since 3.0

Current Behavior

Weโ€™re seeing general failures on our AppVeyor tests that used to perform choco install wireshark successfully. This only happens since 3.0 and seems to be related to the new dependency ยซย vcredist140ย ยป

Here are the logs of one of the failing tests (please ignore the top error, unrelated): https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/collw9fshr6cmlo8/log

Context

Your Environment

What youโ€™ve tried

I tried to manually install the failing packages:

As advised on Chocolateyโ€™s gitter, to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks for your work !

(powertoys) out of date for a few days

PowerToys v0.20.0 was released 7/31 and it announces the availability in my windows sidebar, but I hadn't seen any update via Chocolatey.

It hasn't been that long, so I assume an update is likely coming, but since these are automatic, I figured I'd add an issue just in case.

Thanks!

Just wanted to say thanks for maintaining these packages. In particular, microsoft-windows-terminal is one I'd encouraged them to create but hadn't gotten around to doing and I greatly appreciate you making it available!

(feel free to close anytime; wanted to ensure my thanks made it to you.)

(Slack) Non-terminating error on upgrade if slack.exe is not running

Expected Behavior

Installer should run without errors even if slack.exe is not running.

Current Behavior

Non-terminating error is thrown when running choco upgrade slack -y

C:\> choco upgrade slack -y
Chocolatey v0.10.15
Upgrading the following packages:
slack
By upgrading you accept licenses for the packages.

You have slack v4.8.0 installed. Version 4.9.0 is available based on your source(s).
Cannot find a process with the name "slack". Verify the process name and call the cmdlet again.
Only an exit code of non-zero will fail the package by default. Set
`--failonstderr` if you want error messages to also fail a script. See
 `choco -h` for details.

Possible Solution

Set ErrorAction to SilentlyContinue in chocolateyBeforeModify.ps1

Get-Process "slack" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Stop-Process -Force

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. choco install slack --version 4.8.0 --allow-downgrade -y
  2. choco upgrade slack -y

Context

When upgrading Slack a error message is printed to console indicating an error that does not affect the upgrade process.

Your Environment

  • Package Version used: 4.8.0 & 4.9.0
  • Operating System and version: Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.450
  • Chocolatey version: 0.10.15
  • Install/uninstall gist:

MariaDB chocolatey install fails. URL doesn't exist or is unauthorized or forbidden.

Hey @mkevenaar ,

You asked me on Disqus to create an issue if the problem persists. I hope I got it right with the debug logging. Tried to install MariaDB again with PowerShell and CMD both in Admin mode, but the installation just doesn't want to get through. It says the URL can't be reached even though when I copy it to the browser there is no problem downloading the MariaDB.exe

Anyway, here's everything from the console. Maybe you have some clue what might be causing this.

(pycharm) Feature-Request: Add EAP versions

Expected Behavior

Can you please publish the EAP builds of PyCharm as prerelease versions to chocolatey?

Current Behavior

Currently only final versions are published to Chocolatey with no way of checking the EAP versions of PyCharm at all.

Possible Solution

@Spunkie has this set up already for our PHPStorm package (he's building the EAP releases and my repo only takes the final releases, don't ask me why we split it that way) over here: https://github.com/Spunkie/chocolatey-packages/tree/master/automatic/phpstorm

Context

Jetbrains releases public Release Candidate versions of their products usually a couple of weeks before the final version to get feedback from the community and fix real-world issues.
They're definitely prerelease versions, but Chocolatey has a feature to distinguish final and prerelease versions and only offer prerelease versions to people explicitly asking for them.
Also JetBrains does the EAP thing very regularly with almost each of their products and almost every "feature" (in the year.feature.patch schema) version.

Mysql loses admin access after restarting the computer

Bug

After installing mysql, all works fine, but after restarting the computer, I have to manually right click on mysql and give admin access so it doesn't throw me an error saying that the access was denied to root@localhost

Error

SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

Possible Solution

Maybe an chmod or chown on the file or something like that should resolve the problem

Temporary solution

a) Reinstall mysql, it keeps the database
b) Access mysql folder and forces mysql to open as an administrator (for some reason, after restarting the computer it loses the administrator permition and you need to do it again)

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Install mysql throu choco install mysql
  2. Log in though mysql -uroot -proot
  3. Restart the computer
  4. Try to log in again

(microsoft-windows-terminal) Package installs the pre-release version instead of the stable version

Expected Behavior

The chocolatey package microsoft-windows-terminal should install the latest stable version of the terminal from the releases page. You can see the version v1.1.1671.0 is tagged as pre-release.

Current Behavior

Currently, it disregards the GitHub releases tag and install the one on the top, no matter if it is the pre-release version or the stable release version.

Possible Solution

Relying on the tag of the GitHub release for getting the package would be a better option. The link (https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/releases/latest) should always point to the latest stable version (currently v1.0.1401.0) even if the upstream updates the package version.
Secondly, a different chocolatey package microsoft-windows-terminal-beta could be made that would track only the pre-release versions of this terminal.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

I'm not sure how to specify the steps to reproduce. I believe the explanation above is enough but if you think this step is absolutely necessary, please guide me on how would I properly write the steps to reproduce.

Context

As I plan to use the terminal very frequently, I would appreciate if it was running a stable version rather than a pre release version. I hope I am making sense here.

Your Environment

Notes

I would be happy to send a PR if you could guide me how the install scripts are built.

JetBrains Rider gets installed to Program Files (x86) which breaks its batch script

Expected Behavior

choso install jetbrains-rider should install Rider to C:\Program Files\JetBrains\JetBrains Rider 2020.2.4\

Current Behavior

choso install jetbrains-rider installs Rider to C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\JetBrains Rider 2020.2.4\, which leads to rider.bat being broken (see IDEA-254793).

Possible Solution

Not using rider.bat after Rider installation (which is what most users do).

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. choso install jetbrains-rider
  2. "C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\JetBrains Rider 2020.2.4\bin\rider.bat"
  3. You'll see the console output \JetBrains\JetBrains was unexpected at this time.
    Rider won't start.

Context

Honestly, I don't know under which circumstances users could want to use the Batch file instead of rider64.exe, but practice shows they sometimes are doing that.

Your Environment

  • Operating System and version: Windows 10 Version 2004

(clion-ide) package doesn't upgrade but installs all versions side by side

Expected Behavior

A package upgrade should remove the previous version and leave only the current version on the computer.

Current Behavior

Currently, all versions of a package remain on the computer after an upgrade of the package. This means that users installing clion will end up wasting a lot of hard disk space.

Possible Solution

A solution would be to remove the currently installed version of clion before installing the latest version.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Install an older clion package via chocolatey
  2. Upgrade through some versions
  3. Check C:\Program Files (x86)\Jetbrains

(Wireshark) do not create shim for installer

The Wireshark package has a shim made for the installer executable which is not ideal.

Expected Behavior

That the bin folder is not cluttered with Wireshark installer shims

Current Behavior

Currently, during the install of the Wireshark package, a shim is created in the chocolatey bin folder for the Wireshark installer executable. Additionally, more shims are created upon upgrade and the previous shims are not removed automatically.

Possible Solution

Create .ignore files in the tools directory for installer.
https://chocolatey.org/docs/create-packages#how-do-i-exclude-executables-from-getting-shims

Unfortunately, it needs to match the filename exactly, so the file needs to be updated. There are a couple ways to go about this-

  1. The filename of the ignore file could be updated as part of the automatic update process.
  2. The installers could be renamed to be version agnostic naming, ie removing the version from the filename of the installer.
  3. The ignore files could be created in the chocolateyinstall.ps1 script as shown here https://chocolatey.org/docs/create-packages#how-do-i-exclude-executables-from-getting-shims
  4. The installers could be deleted at the end of the install script.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. cinst wireshark

  2. Watch shim be created after chocolateyinstall.ps1 script completes.

(mysql) Issue with x86 PC

Expected Behavior

I installed MySql and it worked on my main PC. But when I tried the same for my Laptop which is 32 bit Windows 10, it installed but the software didn't work.

Current Behavior

It gave me this error on my Laptop.

C:\Users\Dell>"C:\tools\mysql\current\bin\mysqld" --console
This version of C:\tools\mysql\current\bin\mysqld.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher.

Possible Solution

It looks like the upstream doesn't have zip files for x86 PC so the package should check for x86 using Get-OSArchitectureWidth and stop the installation informing the user.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Use a 32 bit PC.
  2. Type choco install mysql
  3. Type "C:\tools\mysql\current\bin\mysqld" --console. This should run MySQL but doesn't run and shows not supported as above.

Context

I need to install MySql in my Laptop and for my school work where they teach me how to use this software.

(Wireshark) allow installation of plugins

Wireshark package lacks ability to install additional plugins like ciscodump / randpkt / sshdump

Expected Behavior

ciscodump, randpkt, sshdump should be installed or we should be able to select them on install

(nginx) Install/upgrade to a consistent directory

As mentioned in package comments for nginx, even when using the /installLocation parameter, the actual directory that nginx ends up in changes depending on the version number.. eg. C:\nginx\nginx-1.17.9.

I suspect this is caused by the unzipping using the zip filename.

Probably should preserve existing config during an upgrade

(lastpass) SHA-256 checksum incorrect

For some reason, the chocolateyInstall.ps1 file seems to have the SHA-256 hash of LastPass (x64) 4.1.57:
9427DCC285BF574C7AAB03E998E7C2062F0A3E62619048062BF956EBCF1B48FA
rather than the hash of version 4.33: (would appreciate third-party confirmation, of course!)
2401C795E7584C3A185E221CBA77DBB422A82AA4CE97936534066F5EE9C79005

This causes installs/updates to fail, of course, unless ignore-checksums is used.

Expected Behavior

Installer would download LP x64 4.33, confirm the checksum and install

Current Behavior

Installer fails after download with checksum error, listing the checksums above as what it claims are "right" and "wrong", respectively

Possible Solution

Update checksum in chocolateyInstall.ps1 file

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

Attempt to install or upgrade lastpass (x64). Status of x86 unknown.

 See log for details.

Possible Solution

Update the hashes for all downloads in tools\downloadInfo.csv.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

Try to install the current version of the WinRAR package with Chocolatey.

Context

The certificate used for the original WinRAR v5.91 packages was revoked. All downloads for this version have been repackaged using a different certificate, which causes the hashes of all downloads to be changed. I guess the automatic update mechanism cannot detect this as the version number of WinRAR itself did not change.

(Wireshark) Not installing a capture driver

The Wireshark installation does not install a capture driver (Npcap preferably) and thus it doesn't show any capture interfaces.
I think it should have Npcap as a dependency or even show a link to download it.

From the documentation about arguments passed to the installer:
/S runs the installer or uninstaller silently with default values. The silent installer will not install Npcap.

Thanks.

(icloud) choco upgrade icloud failing

Expected Behavior

icloud should install even if a previous version is installed.

Current Behavior

Fails because bonjour is already installed.

Possible Solution

Unsure

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. install previous version of icloud
  2. choco upgrade icloud

Context

Your Environment

(mongodb) Remove or allow skipping starting of mongodb database service

Expected Behavior

I should be allow to install mongodb import/export tools only, using the msi, without installing the mongodb database that runs as a windows service. This WOULD work with the following chocolatey puppet code.

package { 'mongodb':
    ensure   => '4.2.3',
    # ensure => 'absent',
    install_options => [
      '--override',
      '--installArgs',
      '"',
      '/qn',
      '/norestart',
      'ADDLOCAL="ImportExportTools"',
      '"'
    ],
    provider => 'chocolatey',
  }

Current Behavior

The installation of ONLY the import/export tools works with the above code BUT since the chocolateyinstall.ps1 calls Start-Service and Get-Service it fails!

Possible Solution

Either removing the Start-Service and Get-Service calls OR allowing the ability to pass a package parameter to skip the windows service checks.

(powertoys) package is not automatically updating from 0.21.1 to 0.23.0

Expected Behavior

The package should automatically update when a new version is available on Github

Current Behavior

Currently the package is stuck at 0.21.0 while the latest release is 0.23.0.

Possible Solution

It appears that the update.ps1 looks for a linked release asset with an .msi file extension. While previous releases have included separate .msi and .exe assets, the current release only has a .exe asset, and the following line from the release notes indicates this may be the norm going forward:

  • The EXE installer should be at parity now with the MSI. Please go to the wiki for installer args

A possible solution might be to search for the .exe asset instead of the .msi asset:

@@ chocolatey-packages/automatic/powertoys/update.ps1
- $re = "PowerToysSetup(.+)?.msi"
+ $re = "PowerToysSetup(.+)?.exe"

If the above change is appropriate, I can submit the pull request to help expedite the process.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Install powertoys via chocolatey: choco install powertoys -y.
  2. Within the next 24 hours, powertoys will provide a notification that version 0.23.0 is available.
  3. Verify package with version 0.23.0 is not available: choco list powertoys -e.

Context

I prefer to install and upgrade software using chocolatey when possible. This has prevented me from updating the powertoys package to the latest version.

Your Environment

  • Package Version used: 0.21.1
  • Operating System and version: Windows 10 Pro 2004
  • Chocolatey version: 0.10.15

Incorrect parameters in bitvise-ssh-server

While trying to install bitvise during a packer install I was attempting to set the certificates during install but found the option was not available.

Version 8.19 of Bitvise Server has the following output when you run BvSshServer-Inst.exe -?

BvSshServer-Inst -installDir=directory OR -defaultInstance OR -instance=name
                  [-force OR -abortOnWarning[=warning-list-or-mask]
                  [-acceptEULA] [-interactive] [-noRollback]
                  [-renameExistingDir=existingDir]
                  [-activationCode=activation-code-hex]
                  [-keypairs=keypairs-file]
                  [-certificates=certificates-file]
                  [-settings=settings-file]
                  [-instanceTypeSettings=fileName]
                  [-startService]
                  [-startBssCtrl]

Looking at the install script it appears
siteTypeSettings => instanceTypeSettings
and certificates is new
