I don't see any TB 2.3.0 dependencies either - how are you installing the gems? If you already have TorqueBox 2.2.0 installed that would satisfy the dependencies for backstage and it should not install TorqueBox 2.3.0.

I just install the binary version of Torquebox with the bundled JRuby, set up the various environment variables (TORQUEBOX_HOME etc. ) then run "gem install torquebox-backstage".

It will then install backstage and the TB 2.3.0 gems

Attempted again recently with the same result on a windows machine. Install binary torquebox 2.2.0, set environment variables then type gem install torquebox-backstage in the command line. Torquebox 2.3.0 gems are still being installed.

@rurounijones sorry for the late response. I played with this a bit this morning, and got gem to do the right thing by updating to the latest version of rubygems (2.0.3) and using the --conservative flag (you can update the gem command with gem update --system). I suspect there was a bug in the conservative option in the gem that ships with TorqueBox 2.2.0, but I didn't try to find the bug report since updating fixed the issue. You can see a full log of this process at https://gist.github.com/tobias/5502409.

I'll update the backstage readme with a note regarding this workaround.

Let me know if this works for you, and we'll close this issue if you are okay with that.

Hello Tobias, thanks for looking into it, I shall give it a go when I get back to the office (holidays at the moment) on the 7th.

I have managed to update rubygems to 2.0.3 and install torquebox-backstage (was a little tricky since those servers have no net connection.) and can confirm the problem is fixed. Thank you very much.

Great, I'm glad that worked for you. Sorry again that it took us so long to figure it out.
