I'm unable to reproduce this with TorqueBox 2.3.0 and the latest backstage. I installed TorqueBox 2.3.0 as the binary .zip and then installed backstage from the torquebox-backstage gem. Since you're using RVM, are you sure everything is installed in the appropriate gemset? Are you booting TorqueBox under the same RVM environment that you're using to install the gems?
from backstage.
Everything is installed in the appropriate gemset and RVM is setup correctly as far as I can see.
This issue also appeared on Windows using a fresh binary zip install (although in this case using separate JRuby 1.7.3-dev) with all the torquebox gems installed and then installing the torquebox-backstage gem.
On the Linux side I have setup a 2.2.0 and 2.3.0 gemset for testing, setup is the same for each gemset (envs point to the respective tb install) but it works on 2.2.0 while failing with 2.3.0.

Have totally wiped out all traces of TB in every gemset on the Linux machine and re-installed and it now appears to work. I will try a wipeout / reinstall on the windows machine with the binary zip and see if it works.

After wiping out TB and reinstalling various times I am unable to replicate. Closing issue.
