Usage

Control System UI Visibility

  • Set to true to display system volume slider when changing volume.
  • This setting only works on Android and iOS.
  • Note: this setting doesn't control the volume slider invoked by physical buttons on Android.

Increase Volume

  • On Android and Windows, when step is set to null, it will uses the default system stepping value.
  • On iOS, macOS, Linux, if step is undefined, the default stepping value is set to 0.15.

Decrease Volume

  • On Android and Windows, when step is set to null, it will uses the default system stepping value.

Check Mute

  • On Android and iOS, we check if the current volume level is already dropped to zero.
  • On macOS, Windows, Linux, we check if the mute switch is turned on.

Set Mute

  • On Android and iOS, we either set the volume to zero or revert to the previous level.
  • On macOS, Windows, Linux, we control the mute switch. Volume will be restored once it's unmuted.

Set Audio Stream on Android

  • Adjusts to the audio stream whose volume should be changed by the hardware volume controls.

Notes

Volume controls doesn't work on iOS simulator

  • On iOS, volume control uses MPVolumeView internally which does not works on simulator. Please uses physical device for testing.

Fine-grained volume control

  • Due to platform and device difference, it's normal that volume level could not be controlled precisely. For example, Android supports only 15 volume steps by default, the volume after being set would be a rounded off value.

Audio devices without volume control

  • On desktop platforms like Windows and Linux, you may encounter PlatformException if the default audio device doesn't support volume control, like an external monitor.

Controlling Android volume slider UI

  • Currently there is no trivial way to control the volume slider invoked by physical buttons on Android in plugin level. You may override FlutterActivity::onKeyDown to customize the buttons action.

Can not set volume on IOS simulator

Describe the bug
When i used plugin for ios simulator(iphone 14 pro max). It can't set volume for it.

  • Version: lastest

To Reproduce

  • Clone example.
  • Choose device is ios simulator after that run it.
  • Handle on screen app.

Expected behavior

  • Can control volume on app.

Listener can't detect mute set

I didn't want to label this as a bug as it seems invoking mute on device doesn't send a volume double value. However it does seem to be a lacking feature for a volume controller and listener, as the app can't detect when 'mute' is toggled on platform device outside of the slider.

some methods reduce playing music volume

addListener, setIOSAudioSessionCategory reduce volume of currently playing music. Minimization of application reverts music volume back. Resuming of application doesn't reduce volume again.

Background audio_service is stopped using with FlutterVolumeController

I am using audio_service for background play in my app.the background service is getting stopped if I am using volumeController.

Expected behavior
the plugin shouldn't affect the background play of audio service.

Failed to set audio session category

I got this error when change the audio category on real ios device to force video mute and unmute when I pressed on ringer button

Show/hide iOS system UI without changing volume

Currently the setShowSystemUI method in VolumeController.swift is private and called only in set, raise and lower volume methods. This makes it impossible to enable back the volume system UI without actually showing it from Flutter.

I propose to add an updateShowSystemUI (or other name) method on Flutter side to call the setShowSystemUI method with the newly set FlutterVolumeController.showSystemUI.

Please @yosemiteyss tell me if you'd be able to work on that in a short time period or whether you'd accept PR for that.

Ideally, the FlutterVolumeController.showSystemUI would be a setter/method that calls native said straight away, but this would be a breaking change.

As for the Android side, I see it's not trivial - #58 (comment) - so it could just do nothing there.

Setting audio stream voice call in video call only works for setVolume

Describe the bug
When I am in a video call and set teh audio manager like this FlutterVolumeController.setAndroidAudioStream(stream: AudioStream.voiceCall) it is still using another AudioStream. When I call FlutterVolumeController.getAndroidAudioStream() the correct voiceCall Stream is returned though.

It works to set the volume via FlutterVolumeController.setVolume(vol, stream: _currAudioStream) with the required stream.

Increase volume with step size (.2) jumps from .4 to .8

Describe the bug
When I am in a video call and increase the volume with FlutterVolumeController.raiseVolume(.2,stream: _currAudioStream) the volume jumps from .4 to .8. When I user FlutterVolumeController.raiseVolume(null,stream: _currAudioStream) it works as expected.

getVolume resets iOS AudioSessionCategory to ambient

As far as I understand in swift code in some methods default AudioSessionCategory is used instead of configured one.

Calls result in PlatformExceptions

I'm running my Flutter app on a MacOS Ventura 13.3.1 and calling all of the APIs results in errors of the following code. I'm running my app off the command line 'flutter run -d macos'. I've read the readme files and not see there any permissions to set or initialisation procedure that I must do and I'm just copying the examples.

I've done a flutter clean and rebuild but that didn't change anything. A Google search did not yield any results, hence my post here as I don't currently see what else to try as the API is pretty straight forward.

setVolume sets the wrong value that is passed

Hello! I can't set the volume I want. I need it to be accurate, it's very important, but neither setVolume nor lowerVolume sets values like 0.1 or 0.2 etc. the value is always long and wrong.
Even if I manually set the volume to exactly 100%, to the end, then any method makes the volume not correct.
