create_os_x_vm_install_dmg's Issues

Can't create working El Capitan images on Mountain Lion.

I am running 10.8.5. I am trying to create DMGs and ISOs of OS X 10.11.1_15B42.

I can run your script ok. It outputs a DMG file and a ISO file, as requested. I can mount both files. When I try to run "Install OS X 10.11" from either mounted image, I get the following error message:

To download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple.

Then:
Could not find installation information for this machine.
Contact AppleCare.

Is creating working (mountable, installable and bootable) El Capitan images (esp. ISOs) just not possible on Mountain Lion?

P.S. This is the 7th attempt to create an El Capitan iso, and none of the isos created fully work.

stuck in update loop + reboot - thunderbolt

Awesome script. Though the automatic updater causes an infinite loop of fetching the thunderbolt 1.2 update and rebooting, since said update downloads + "installs" + reboots, but somehow isn't really installed and seen again as available update.

I'll try to work around it by virtually unplugging the network cable and waiting an hour.

script and support directory location anomaly

When the script is run in the same directory as the support directory it returns the following error:

-- /Users/my_home/support/First Boot Package Install.pkg not found! This is needed for the OS to install properly, exiting..
-- The script is expecting the following:
-- A. That a first boot installer package is stored in /Users/my_home/support.
-- B. That the first boot installer package is named as follows: First Boot Package Install.pkg

I met the 2nd condition (B) but the first (A) is confusing as moving the support directory to my_home folder allows the script to run without error, however I followed the documented pre-requisite below:

Pre-requisites:

  1. This script and the associated support directory. This script and the support directory must be both stored in the same directory in order for the script to work properly.

Thousands of createinstallmedia processes created

This line:

sudo "$install_esd/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia" --volume /Volumes/"$random_disk_image_name" --applicationpath "$install_esd" --nointeraction

...causes more than a thousand createinstallmedia processes which eventually absolutely peg my machine. It doesn't seem like intended behavior.

Edit: Since it behaves the same when I run the command manually, it's likely not your bug. Any ideas though? Is my installer broke somehow?

Osx, dmg

I'm trying to create a DMG file. I've done it before, but now it gives the following error.

chmod +x shfile
./shfile
