owid-datasets's Issues

Missing datasets?

Hi there,

First off huge thanks for the work you're doing at OWID. It's one of my favorite projects out there. I'm delighted that you've also taken steps to make this data available here on github.

I've been trying to prototype my own data exploration tool, and I'd love to offer some of the datasets for users to explore. I've been noticing that there are a bunch of entries (59) where the output CSV seems to have existed at one point, but then was removed by a later commit. The folder + datapackage.json still exist, it's only the CSV output that seems to be gone.

Was the goal to remove those CSVs, or was it a mistake? And if it's intentional, is the idea that I should start fetching data from the datapackage.json files directly?

Thank you!

3-letter iso country code

Hi, thanks for your work!

It will be very interesting to "join" several datasets and study correlations among possibly vastly different topics such as sanitation and transportation. Using the 3-letter ISO country code as the joining key between different tables (instead of the full country name) would make it much easier. Therefore I wrote a small program country-encode.py to prepend every row with the 3-letter code and the continent in which the country is located. Might it be possible to integrate this idea and code into the entire dataset?

BTW, during the process I found that "Faroe Islands" are misspelled as "Faeroe Islands" in some files. Presently I see 52 files have this problem using this command: grep -l Faeroe */*.csv | wc
