meetups's Issues

Guidelines for OrleansContrib

This isn't quite the right place for this discussion, but I'm wondering if some guidelines would be useful for OrleansContrib. I'm not normally a 'rules and regulations' kind of person, but some of the projects have gone a bit stale...

I'd like to maintain a high level of quality, responsiveness to issues / PRs and good documentation.

Therefore I'd like to encourage project owners to try to:

  • Respond to issues and pull requests in a timely manner
  • Include installation instructions and example usage
  • Build and test code with a CI server (preferably AppVeyor)
  • Keep up with Orleans releases

Any thoughts?

Do you plan to have new meetup?

It so happened I have just watched the last meetup session and it was mentioned that there will be a new one devoted to Kubernetes hosting. It would be great if you actually have it.
There is not a lot of information about the subject, IMO.

Thank you

Hangout vs. Skype for Business (Lync) for meetups

We tried Lync for https://github.com/OrleansContrib/meetups/#meetup-85-networking-discussion-hosted-by-jason-bragg, and it seems to have worked fine.

Now I'm curious what people think of the Lync vs. Hangout for future meetups.

Seems like the only downside of Lync is the initial install which unfortunately adds the app to autostart.

The upside I see in greater participant capacity, better manageability, and better recording options (with or without chat messages, etc.).

Publishing to youtube, of course, is easier from Hangout.

Meetups Timezone

The meetups should include timezone information since people that are not on PST might get confused and miss it.

Topics

Thread to discuss topics you would like to cover. Please also suggest talks you would like to give.

Suggestion of WebMeetups service

Hi guys! Here is a brand new service to do exactly what you are doing using this repo: webmeetups.net.

You can hold meetups using Google Hangouts on Air, the tool automatically reminds about meetup start in a day and in an hour, deals with time zones, allows you to select active participants and watchers if there are more then 10 attending people. You get rid of Hangouts url and Youtube url copy-pasting, it automatically handles all these things. Also it nicely embeds all YouTube videos in your meetup history.

I am service founder and we just came to production, so I warmly invite you to check out our service. Do not hesitate to ask any questions!
