front-end-architecture's Issues

book examples ?

Hi Micah,

First of all, thanks for your book, I appreciate it a lot. Your thought about our community are great (sharing, sharing, sharing..!).

Do you plan to add some example files here as mentioned in the book ?

Thanks,

Pillars of Front-end Architecture

Current pillars of Front-end Architecture are:

Coding Standards (how do we write our code)
Documentation (how do we communicate what we've written)
Testing (How do we assure that we won't break previously written code)
Automation (How do we do all of the above efficiently and consistently)

Are these 4 complete? Do we need to add a 5th? Or change one of them?

Are there tools/processes/categories of things that we DO that don't fall into these 4?

Finish Front-end Architecture definintion

Current definition is:

Front-end Architecture is a collection
of tools and processes that aims to improve the quality of our front-end code while creating a more efficient and sustainable workflow.

This is really just a working definition. I'd love to keep iterating and try to get it as concise, and complete as possible.

Where does Ops planning fit into front-end architecture?

I brought up the topic of performance budget today and it got me thinking about where ops fits into front-end architecture? Here are the 3 options I see:

  1. Ops is a separate discipline that is more concerned with the delivery of the website than it's creation (and just like server configuration, is outside of the FEA circle of influence)
  2. Ops is a discipline that, like front-end developer, implements and maintains the ops framework set forth by the front-end architect.
  3. Does it really matter? Some architects will do some ops work, and some won't.

excellent Idea, but wtf is the roadmap?

for appealing to potential contributors, it would be great to list of 'things needed to be done' / providing a sense of direction vs having it open ended...

at least it would be great for me to know where my 5 minutes of free time would be most useful.
