public-apis's Issues

Report from publicapis.dev

Name: ArvanCloud
Category: Business
Issue: Other
Message: Please remove this from your website, basically they are a network that allows the Iranian government to cut off Iranian users' access to the internet and provide them only domestic networks and in 14th of november EU imposed sanctions on them for the reason mentioned above. They don't deserve being advertised or been seen by users of your website. Best regards navid from Iran.

Migrate all new contributions from the old repository

Many issues and PRs were closed with the reasoning that no commit permission was available. We could go through all of such "thrown away" contributions one by one, check whether they are still valid and merged them here. I could volunteer to help if you are open to this. Related automation: #22

Consider renaming the namespace and repository

After detaching from upstream, it might result in legal issues later on if the exact same name use used here, i.e., the company could sue.

So rather just come up with a new name and replace it everywhere in the code.

Of course, the original contributors and company could be acknowledged for their support at places such as the end of the readme, but that's it.

Set up a bot in the old repository to redirect contributors here

A bot could be set up that could close all new PRs and issues in the old repository with a standard text, similarly to how it has been done manually up to now.

Except that we could tweak this message a lot. The message could just redirect contributors to this repository instead (and just mention the "mega issue" in a few words).

More compact information representation

I would find it more appealing if we weren't stuck at the fixed-width Markdown table. I recommend that we should migrate to some representation that could still be edited by humans, but be also easily available as input to output generation. I leave it to you whether this would be JSON, CSV or something else.

We could then introduce a few more structured, optional fields as well, such as cost (gratis-only, free tier), daily quota, access methods, separate the URL of the source repository, the endpoint and the documentation, etc.

This might interfere with #22, but it could be worked around by implementing specific diffing of the markdown changes. Let me know if I can help you with this.

CORS

Do you think we could refine the values under CORS? Various services could work from the browser under different circumstances.

  • With CORS headers: XHR (and fetch)
  • Without CORS headers:
    • Submitting data via HTML <form>, CSP reports or <a ping link tracking
    • Embedding resources: <iframe>, fonts, <img>, <video>, <audio>
    • Getting data via JSONP (or css)
    • Everything else only on the server side

Set up a bot in the old repository to cherry pick contributions here

When somebody submits a PR there, the change could be rebased and cherry picked to a new branch and a PR opened for it over here. This will only work while the file format is compatible.

If the change would not apply automatically, the bot could rather open an issue about it in this repository.
