rtw8852cu's Issues

6ghz

I got a Tenda 6e router.
I tested an AX210 and the 8832CU under Windows and Linux.

With unified bands (same SID):
The AX210 behaved with no hassles under all systems and chose the 6ghz band as a preference.
The 8832CU could not connect. Under Windows, as soon as it is authenticated, the adapter disconnects from devices. Then it becomes available again, it tries to connect again, and the cycle repeats. Sometimes it can connect to the 2.4Ghz band, sometimes it will just say, "cannot connect to this network". After a while, the system becomes unstable and needs a forced reboot. Under Linux, same thing, aside that it won't see the 6ghz band (I set up the country db). It doesn't become unstable, but it just doesn't work.

With 2.4ghz and 5ghz unified, while 6ghz on its own SID:
Under Windows it connects with occasional adapter disappearance as before. But it mostly works.
Under Linux, still no way to see the 6ghz band.

Conclusion: Unified networks will use WPA3 for all of them. The AX210 seems to handle this. The 8832CU does not handle it. It needs separate SIDs for WPA2 and WPA3.
Maybe I cannot find the way to enable region with the 8832CU. But with the AX210 it worked, so I wonder what's wrong.

Seeing Two SSIDs in the AP mode for RTL8852CU

Right now I am trying to bring up this driver for USB based dongle RTL8852CU.

The module is working fine in the STA mode but when I am trying to configure this module as SoftAP by using hostapd, then I am observing the two SSID's with the same name with different MAC addresses.

Please find the hostapd configs are below -

g is needed, n is built on top of it

this enables the 802.11n speeds and capabilities ... You will also need to enable WMM for full HT functionality.

Set up some sane defaults:

For packets over $val bytes, activate Request to Send (RTS) / Clear to Send (CTS)

(CTS)

Defaults to the frame size = 2347

#rts_threshold=1200

For packets over $val bytes, fragment the packet into multiple frames. Half

the Ethernet MTU (usually =1500) would normally be a good starting point, but we have only

WiFi

Defaults to the frame size = 2346

#fragm_threshold=1198

Short preamble, improves performance IFF all STAs support it

Defaults to $val=0 (off)

preamble=1

DTIM (delivery traffic information message) period (range 1..255):

number of beacons between DTIMs (1 = every beacon includes DTIM element)

Note that multicast traffic is only sent with each DTIM. We could improve

this by setting =1, but then STAs may never sleep again (drains power!)

Defaults to $val=2 (once every two beacons)

dtim_period=3

Help: can't get RTL8832CU to work

Hello. I have a Comfast CF-972AX just purchased from China, with its chip RTL8832CU.

Links:

lsusb:

Bus 003 Device 032: ID 0bda:c832 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 802.11ax WLAN Adapter

After searching some on the Internet, however I still can't make it work. FYI the pages I browsed:

Now after compiling and installing the 8852cu driver (also ejecting the CD), iw can recognize it. But still I cannot assign an interface name to it, giving an error: no such device (-19):

~ ❯ iw list | rg Wiphy
Wiphy phy11
Wiphy phy0
~ ❯ sudo iw phy phy11 interface add rtl type managed
command failed: No such device (-19)

(phy0 is my on-board intel NIC.)

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

REGULATORY_IGNORE_STALE_KICKOFF error

I got back my dongle and tested the new fix. It won't compile.

Is this the right driver?

Sorry for the general question, but I have a device ID that I can't map to a Realtek chipset or driver. This is my best guess, so I'm looking for a sanity check before I add the device ID to the driver and see if it behaves.

Here's what I know:
TP-Link AXE5400 (tri-band)
also called TP-Link Archer TXE70UH
USB 35bc:0502

Linux reports...
Manufacturer: Realtek
Product: 802.11ax WLAN Adapter

Just from Realtek and Tri-Band, this seems like the right chipset and driver? Should I try adding the device ID or is there some other way I should try to confirm which IC is in use? (and is there a way to do that short of prying the dongle apart?)

Is it a mistake?

I am not know about compile, the 273 line in ioctl_cfg80211.c:
cfg80211_ch_switch_notify(adapter->pnetdev, &chdef, 0); raised an error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ch_switch_notify’.
It semms need a zero : cfg80211_ch_switch_notify(adapter->pnetdev, &chdef, 0, 0);

Unable to compile the driver with "CONFIG_RTW_MESH"

We want to enable the MESH interface support for this wlan adapter but we are getting lot of build errors due to unknown types, implicit declarations, members are not defined in the structs.

Do you have the latest version driver code from RTK?
