One error which appeared only the first time I tried to install (no I didn't save the text :o). Since then have done multiple installs and uninstalls separated with restarts, with no apparent errors . Search window background always appears unchanged i.e. white.

My profile name is shown as "Enderturtle", but my ProfileImagePath is "houch".
It seems BeautySearch doesn't use the ProfileImagePath to get the true path.

Is there any way to use the online search in search bar after installing BS. As it disables the online search. There should be a option of enabling/disabling the online search in BeautySearch.

Currently, the background color of the context menu is too bright and is a bit unpleasing to look at, having a darker background color (something like #2B2B2B) would be much more pleasing and have good contrast.

Only by looking at that, it hints that an attempt is made to build up an object wrapping a Windows user account using an invalid name, for example, starting from an empty string. Of course, since the software is open, I checked it out locally and compiled it myself to see where it fails in the debugger. The problem occurs here:

What happens at runtime is that username is empty on my machine. I then looked on the implementation of Utility.GetUsername(), which seems to be the "setter' for the username string. The contents is one of the answers from this popular StackOverflow question: https://stackoverflow.com/a/48317239

As mentioned there, there are a million ways to do this, so much so that it is hard to pick the right one... This one that you chose has the disadvantage that it requires WMI to be available (some users may disable the service), and also that the database is proper, and not corrupt. Also, the call simply seems to fail when the user is connected via remote desktop. You can also see this in PowerShell when using the Get-WMIObject cmdlet while connected remotely:

I did not find any documentation regarding this behavior. So, yeah, if I were to code this, I'd stick to Win32 API calls which are the primary source and well documented and tested over the years. I dislike these wrappers that many people trust bu fail weirdly in some of these edge case scenarios... I don't know, maybe you view it differently, that's why I haven't opened a PR, and instead opt to suggest here an implementation which should replace the Utility::GetUsername function from here:

It may look like polluting managed code with C-style stuff, but I believe it being reliable outweighs that fact. Anyway, it's your call, I have already applied it on that remote machine and it worked beautifully, so let me take this opportunity to thank you as well for this wonderful program and the research you invested in this topic.

PS. What this should do in case of failure (the rv == null check), again, is up for debate... I'd throw an exception and/or even kill the app altogether in that case, if that method fails still, the user has bigger things to worry about than how the search window looks...

Windows 10 build 19044.1288. When using Light theme for both Windows and Search (via BeautySearh 1.15.2) and reboot/logout, the Search UI is being reset to Dark mode. However since text color of Light theme is black the Search UI becomes broken (until changed or reset via BeautySearch). Fake acrylic effect is being preserved as well as other settings. Is there any way to fix this somehow? I tried downgrading to 13.5 and that didn't help. When you use Dark theme everything's fine after logout/reboot... Oh, and if the Light theme is used the setting "Show accent color on Search Window" is not working (when applied only Light theme is being applied). However accent color appears with half-dark theme of Search after reboot/logout.

I don't think it looks good. The icon size is too big

All other modifications from BeautySearch work on startup/Windows Explorer restart (except dark mode) it is only enabled when I right click a search option (showing the context menu).

If you install BeautySearch, it automatically disables web search.

I think it was intentionally added, but it shouldn't, many people including me use it.

The check for admin should be run when the installer starts and not when the user presses the "Install" button. In this way, people will not choose the options carefully and find out they need to restart the installer.

After installing the April 12 KB5012599 update, the search UI only shows up in light mode, no matter what theme is picked in the BeautySearch installer

I tried uninstalling BeautySearch but it doesn't remove this. Any way I can manually get the red search background back?

Not sure whether it's the case with my PC only, but every time I get to search something either by clicking magnifier icon in the taskbar or by pressing WIN key and start typing, search results initially appear in white background, and stays white all the way till you (left) click with a mouse pointer on that white background or one of the search result after which it immediately turns to black/dark as it was supposed to be.. then it stays dark.
White background is present after each boot only initially until you click on it

I installed it and a few days later every uwp apps have the paint 3d icon, i tried unistalling paint 3d but it was another app. Clearing the icon cache works but i have to do it every time i sign in into windows.

The permissions to the desktop folder from the instructions have been granted.
With this exact same build but on a laptop everything works perfectly, what's the matter?

Basically I set up the settings, then click install, the search app restarts but nothing changes, is it just me?

I would like to know if at some point they would put a shape for the search menu has rounded edges and is floating in windows 10 I feel that it would look more minimalist to attack that style since many not only to my likaria but entedere if this idea can not be carried out.
