I think they've changed popup menu class name recently, I'll check it.

@krlvm, sorry for bugging, I dealt with the issue described previously on my own (long story short, false positive). I had to edit the initial message of this thread as I faced different problem during extensive testing. Please have a look once you'll have a minute. I believe this may be related to issue #27. Thank you.

I think your Windows 10 build is too dated, the last version of BeautySearch which correctly works with it is v1.9.1.

If you update Windows to at least .1618, you will no longer need Fake Acrylic as Microsoft has fixed it.

Thanksfor taking time to make it clear. I'm using the latest available LTSC of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 version 21H2). LTSC editions get only security updates, not possible to update build. I'll try to get around by swapping DLLs inside Windows/SystemApps/Microsoft.Windows.Search with the ones from 19044.1766. Maybe one of them will take care of acrylic without breaking Search itself.

It is not a new build, just a cumulative update. Try checking for updates in the Windows Settings.

Thanks for heads up, you're correct regarding the possibility of updating LTSC with cumulative update. However I manage multiple computers and would like to get away without applying entire cumulative update KB5011543 because it may break something else (i.e Print Nightmare sort of thing in surprising place the time you need it the most).

So I downloaded update via Update Catalog and applied in my testing environment, version bumped up from 19044.1288 to 19044.1620. BeautySearch 1.15.2 got working correctly. Then I backed up C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Search* contents that got changed by update. I restored snapshot of pre-updated OS and and manually replaced files with the new ones (running as TrustedInstaller). Acrylic effect in Search and everything else altered by BeautySearch appears to be working now (SearchApp version is displayed old since I didn't bother to replace cache directory with updated one):

Result

Search is working as it should and any BeautySearch tweaks can be applied manually by editing JS file and restarting Search process via Task Manager or BAT. However would you kindly tell how to edit Top Apps manually?

P.S. For anyone interested and running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, here's a Windows Search update that brings acrylic effect to Windows 19044.1288 and BeautySearch manual installation support for anyone in situation similar to mine (BAT files included, also please make sure examine Readme.txt and make sure to execute BAT scripts as TrustedInstaller via AdvancedRun or similar program or script): Microsoft.Windows.Search.10.0.19041.1620__cw5n1h2txyewy.zip

  1. the result of "Update with BeautySearch.bat" (keeps original 19044.1288 single-panel layout and adds Windows Search's default acrylic effect):
    Layout 1
  2. the result of "Update with BeautySearch.bat" (complete 19044.1620's Windows Search plus applied BeautySearch that, well, makes it single-panel as well according to my BeautySearch.js preset, this preset is included in Microsoft.Windows.Search.10.0.19041.1620__cw5n1h2txyewy.zip, note a bit more pronounced acrylic effect):
    Layout 2
