Thanks @aminb !
It's funny because I originally had Merriweather as the font, but then decided to remove it since I was trying to make Pixyll as simple as possible (PT Serif is available to most all modern browsers).
However, as I ponder it more, I think going back to Merriweather, using Google Web Fonts, is probably a good idea. We all know that it's a way more aesthetically pleasing typeface, and it will make the simple design of Pixyll look even more polished.
Later today I will be making some more tweaks to the nav and font sizes, so I will toss in Merriweather again and take it for a spin.

@johnotander haha interesting to hear you thought of it too!
Along with your other adjustments, it'd be nice to see bigger nav font size (more like mdo's theme) to match nicely with the rest of the page.
P.S. about "availability of PT Serif to most modern browsers": technically, availability of a typeface depends on the platform. For instance, afaik, OS X ships with PT Serif (by default), but that's not the case with other platforms such as with most linux distributions. So, it's probably best to use web fonts (from services like Google Fonts) to have a consistent look across different platforms.

Yeah, agreed on the nav font size. When I change the font to Merriweather I'll be increasing the navigation font size to 16px (currently at 12px).
Thanks for the info on system fonts, I didn't realize that PT Serif wasn't available to most Linux distros. TIL.

@johnotander You're very welcome :)
Awesome! Looks much better!
One thing I noticed is the change of font weights from 400 to 300. Was that intentional? I think 400 might look better ? (Haven't tried though; and I'm by no means a typographer, so don't take my word for it).
So, do you want to choose a sans serif web font (for headings) as well? How about Open Sans? or maybe Lato?
from pixyll.
I have a slight preference for the 300 font weight. It has a more "airy" feel to me. I toggled back and forth with the 300 and 400 for a bit before deciding.
I'm a big Lato fan, and think that will likely fit in really well with the Merriweather. Will have to give it a try soon!

@johnotander alright then, good to know; I might change it on my own instance later :)
Oh mannn, you know I too have a thing for Lato?? (aminb.org) this ridiculously cool 😄 so many things in common hahaha 😛
from pixyll.
Yeah, absolutely. It's a great font. Nice website, too, by the way. Stylish.
from pixyll.
It is indeed a great font.
Thanks for the compliments, it's my fork of solo with quite a bit of customization.
I wanted to make a blog theme out of it (since solo is, well, single page) but never really did it.
So, I might as well switch to Pixyll when the heading font is sorted out.
from pixyll.
@johnotander so, what's the plan for 'pagination' and 'footer' font? I realize you're only importing Lato 900 right now, and that thickness doesn't look good for those purposes.
from pixyll.
Lato 400 or 300 it will be!
Edit: johnotander@aee1403
from pixyll.
Hmm, did you try it with 300? I think 300 will look good, on the footer at least, like it is with Helvetica Neue Light right now.
from pixyll.
Yeah I think you're right, switched to 300. Definitely feels more consistent.
from pixyll.
@johnotander looks great! man this is awesome 😛 i'm going to switch over to this theme in the next couple days!
from pixyll.
@johnotander i also tried Lato for the body paragraphs and it looked _really_ sexy but i think i'll keep it as Merriweather and try a serif font for a while :)
from pixyll.
Awesomeness, @aminb.
I bet Lato for the body paragraphs does look quite nice. I just have a preference for serif fonts when it comes to large quantities of text, which is what Pixyll is intended for.
from pixyll.
@johnotander That's absolutely right ;)
