πŸ•‰οΈ The Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita in JSON krishna-arjuna-1170x721

πŸ™ What is the Bhagavad Gita

  • The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most prominent Hindu texts, forming a part of the Indian epic known as Mahabharata.
  • Originally written in Sanskrit, the Bhagavad Gita is believed to have been composed between the 5th and 2nd century BCE.
  • It is a guidebook to lead an enjoyable and blissful life. In other words, it is a user’s manual to lead a meaningful human life
  • Lord Krishna imparted this knowledge to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when the latter was in a distressful condition
  • Upon receiving this knowledge returned to his happy and stable position
  • All of us undergo difficult situations in life and often become overwhelmed by those situations not knowing where to find a solution
  • The Bhagavad-Gita guides us out of such delusions and reestablishes us in our original position of eternity, knowledge and bliss
  • If we follow the instructions as given by Lord Krishna, then we can attain the same blissful state as Arjuna did

🌸 How relevant is it in modern times

  • The Bhagavad-gita is manual given by the Supreme Lord Krishna which guides us in making the best use of this human life and to deriving real happiness from it.
  • In the modern times when people are more confused and misdirected, the Gita become all the more relevant for the individual as well as the society at large in bringing back the stability and happiness in life.

What is "The Bhagavad Gita"

The Gita is a dialogue between the warrior-prince Arjuna and the god Krishna who is serving as his charioteer at the Battle of Kurukshetra fought between Arjuna's family and allies (the Pandavas) and those of the prince Duryodhana and his family (the Kauravas) and their allies.

Dhrtarastra said O Sanjaya, what did my sons (and others) and Pandu's sons (and others) actually do when, eager for battle, they assembled on the sacred field, the Kuruksetra (Field of the Kurus)?

Special symbols like dashes are missing from the translations and commentaries.

For example, all the translations are supposed to have double dashes like below:

Adding Summary of Every Chapter

⭐ Suggestion

*I will add summary of every chapter

Chapter 1 of Bhagavad Gita sets the scene where the two armies of Kauravas & Pandavas are juxtaposed in the field of Kurukshetra. Sanjay is granted divine vision by sage Ved Vyas to see the whole saga so that he can narrate it to Dhritrashtra (Father of Duryodhan). Sanjay describes the expanse of the armies of both sides to Dhritrashtra and the valor of the mighty warriors on each side. Sanjay also mentions that victory is certain for the side where Shri Krishna is.

Arjuna is mounted in a chariot controlled by Shri Krishna, the Lord of three lokas.
........................(more)

πŸ’» Use Cases

I am contributing because I have also interest in Bhagwad Gita. I will also learn about Gita by contributing to this project.

[BUG] Devanagari and Verse Text differs for some verses

πŸ™ Actual behavior

@samanyougarg In the below ss the line "Ε›hvaΕ›hurān suhαΉ›idaΕ›h chaiva senayor ubhayor api" is missing in the Devanagari for verse 26 and is instead there in verse 27

Screenshot 2023-10-31 at 9 16 56 PM Screenshot 2023-10-31 at 9 17 09 PM

It is happening because of the way we have separated the verses/Devanagari (considering ΰ₯€ΰ₯€1.26ΰ₯€ΰ₯€ as the ending)

Similarly issue can be seen for verse 20
and 21
Screenshot 2023-10-31 at 9 15 43 PM

Screenshot 2023-10-31 at 9 15 52 PM

πŸ™‚ Expected behavior

We need to correct the Devanagari in verse.json file (But if we do this then we will also have to modify the audio file in the verse_recitation folder) similar to what https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/1/verse/20 is doing.

Screenshot 2023-10-31 at 9 31 44 PM

πŸ”’ Steps to Reproduce the Problem

Go to menitoned chapter and verse page

Position of Open Verse buttton

πŸ™‚ Expected behavior

All the blocks will have the button at a fixed place.

[FEATURE] : Languages : Add Chapter Summary in Marathi Language

⭐ Suggestion

  • In the current project, there are only two languages available English and Hindi.
  • If I add Marathi language to it, then it will be more easy for the people to understand it who doesn't know Hindi or English.
  • As my mother tongue is Marathi, I can correctly add all the chapters summary in Marathi.
  • @samanyougarg please assign me this issue

πŸ’» Use Cases

  • It will be more easy for the people to read and understand it who doesn't know Hindi or English.

[BUG] Selecting Chapter x, is losing selection from left panel

πŸ™ Actual behavior

Select any chapter from Left Nav Bar, Chapter displays in Content area but selection lost from left nav bar.

Screenshot 2022-10-30 at 12 50 38 PM

πŸ™‚ Expected behavior

Nav Bar should show selected Chapter when Opening the Chapter so that user can still navgate to another chapter with minimal clicks. In short, Chapters Left Nav should highlight selected Chapter with opened dropdown of chapters as user is interacting in chapters.
Screenshot 2022-10-30 at 12 52 54 PM

πŸ”’ Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Select Chapters from Left Navigation
  2. Select Any Chapter to read

[BUG] Selecting Chapters making duplicate active behaviours on selected left nav items

πŸ™ Actual behavior

If I'm on home page and selected Home from Left navigation Bar - it highlights in grey as to show this selection item is active. But if I Select Chapters it should ONLY highlight Chapters as an active item of left nav bar - Currently it selects both (older nav item + Chapters item)

Screenshot 2022-10-30 at 12 18 27 PM

On Selecting Chapters Navigation item, only that items should be highlighted in grey to show this item is active nothing else.

Update the readme file

What would you like to share?

The readme file is not very descriptive and does not give clear idea about what is to be done and how to follow and what is exactly inside the repo.

[FEATURE] Left Navigation Bar should be collapsible to give more reading room

⭐ Suggestion

Left Navigation Bar should be collapsible so that user can have more focus on content of website but not on left navigations. We can keep left navigation open if user wants based on click of button.

UI should be like this, which requires icon displays with text and when collapsed only icon displays so that functionality can work without opening the bar. But if, user clicks on top left/right chevron icon, then it will toggle nav bar state.

image

πŸ’» Use Cases

Use Cases:

  1. More readable content area
  2. Shifting focus from left nav to main content
  3. Adding List icons to have more memorable and identifiable labels.

❌ Related Problems

Nope.
