UltraWideo Pub 🍻

UltraWideo Cover

A place where you can discuss, vote, track, learn, etc.

UltraWideo cross-browser extension is no longer open-source. Why? Because it contains premium features and having it open-sourced in the past had no value. I strongly believe that v3 and onwards will keep user's trust and security, even as a closed-source.

Decision to create a pub (a place for all users) is now mainly for:

⚠️ Issues | 💭 Discussions | 📋 Planning | 📚 Learning

But later on, you'll be able to vote for the next features and that way contribute in its development.

32:9 support improvements

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
There is no good way to watch wide videos on 32:9 screen in f.e Disney plus. Modes in this addon works better than default, but they are not perfect. Stretch mode makes everything ultra wide and upscale mode cuts video on top and bottom part.

Describe the solution you'd like
For me ideal way to watch videos on 32:9 screen would be to fit video as much as its can be fitted, and left black bars on the left and right portion of the screen.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I didn`t find any alternative

Firefox Android - Downgrade Manifest

Problem
There's an official statement by Mozilla, that suggest to keep using MV2 instead. Firefox for Android contains multiple unresolved bugs at time of this writing.

Image

Solution
Downgrade to manifest v2 for Firefox.

UltraWide doesn't work with www2.movieorca.com video player in phone android.

Hi, it seems the ultrawide app doesn't work with movieorca more specificly with their video players, it only happens in phone android browser, i'm using firefox fork called waterfox, both for my computer and phone, the phone one is having problem with that, curiosly when I used your previous version, it worked flawlessly, now it doesn't work and I tried upscaling/streaching, but nothing works.

Firefox Android - Pinch events broken

Someone on YouTube reported that pinch events are not working for Firefox on Android.

After a lot of time spent to setup debugging environment between my laptop and an Android device, I came to a conclusion.

There's an error with commands API, as it blindly register keyboard shortcuts for a device that doesn't support it.

Reference

This wasn't the case in UW2, because it did not use commands API.

Blurred background video instead of black bars?

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
My Feature is not related to a problem with this extension.

Describe the solution you'd like
when not using the extension, 16:9 content (or other videos with an aspect ratio different to your monitors) are shown with black bars on the sides. I was hoping for an option where instead of black bars, a blurred video plays on the sides that is loosely based on the content displayed on the screen (screenshot examples listed below). This would help OLED 21:9 monitor owners prevent burn in on their displays when viewing 16:9 content.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Obviously you could use ultrawideo to crop the video to 21:9, however sometimes you do lost important information in certain media content (namely videos that use rendered in subtitles, stats, or just generally rely on you seeing the entire screen.

Additional context
I understand this is not necessarily in scope for the project, but I believe it would basically cement the app as a must have have app for all 21:9 (or other non-standard aspect ratio) monitor owners and I hope you may at least consider it.

Below are two example of what the video would look like before and hopefully after. (the images represent someone using Photoshop to correct the issue, but the idea would be the same for video playback).

No longer functions on UKTV Play

Describe the bug
UltraWideo no longer works when watching shows on UKTV Play with its built in fullscreen. Videos are not stretched/zoomed. Shortcuts do not function. This applies when using the fullscreen icon provided as part of the UKTV Player. If I right click the video and use Firefox's Full Screen option from the context menu, UW functions as expected.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to www.uktvplay.co.uk and watch any of the old TV shows that are in 4:3 format
  2. Click the square icon on the right hand end of the player navigation to enter full screen.
  3. Video does not fill the screen. Sortcuts (both keyboard and Ctrl-scroll) do not work.
  4. Exit full screen. Right-click video. Choose "Full Screen" from Firefox's context menu.
  5. Video will now zoom to fill the screen. Shortcuts work (albeit without the overlay telling you which mode it is entering)

Expected behavior
UltraWideo should function when using UKTV Play's own full screen function, as it did before a recent update to their site.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Linux
  • Browser: Firefox
  • Version: 122

Additional context
Bug only appeared very recently following an update to the UKTV Play site.

CTRL + mouse wheel zooms browser while switching modes

Describe the bug
Using the CTRL + mouse wheel bind to switch modes simultaneously changes the browser zoom for the current page.
I tried this on Youtube, Twitch, Disney Plus, Netflix. Same behavior, so I imagine it's not site specific.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to e.g. Youtube and watch a video in fullscreen.
  2. Use the default CTRL + mouse wheel bind to change the mode.
  3. Browser zoom increases.

Expected behavior
Browser zoom shouldn't be affected.

Additional context
Let me know if you need more information on this from me.
Also I do really like the mouse wheel idea so I would just suggest changing the bind to ALT + mouse wheel, which is pretty much the same, just hopefully with less conflicts.

Goes to 404 error page instead of actual repository

Hey mate, thanks for fix everything works as should now, the small issue it seems i'm having is whenever I go to my app manager in phone browser and go to details click homepage for ultrawide, I get 404 error page instead of actual repository for ultrawide.
