What is xdgHandle and how should I use it?
Looking at basedir.h, xdgHandle is an argument to all functions, even to xdgInitHandle.

Release
The last release was 6 years ago, and there has since been important fixes applied to the codebase.
Could you make a new release?
Incorrect memory allocation
return xdgGetRelativeHome("XDG_CACHE_HOME", DefaultRelativeCacheHome, sizeof(DefaultRelativeCacheHome)-1);You should remove "-1" in these calls. Otherwise string terminator will not fit into allocated memory and application will crash randomly.
