I was able to replicate the issue on Nehahra and Warpspasm as well.

s6 (This is an invalid save without a closing bracket or so the engine says).
Ok s6 is probably your savegame that didn't finish writing, it is part of save game file and then your engine crashed without writing the rest.
It crashed on edict 0 (the world) before writing the wad string <--- those are usually quite a mess and quite long.

So let's look at wicked.bsp ...

It is not hard to imagine those \nar getting interpreted as newline characters.
If I load s0.sav and save s0win on Windows, works fine.
If I load s0.sav and save s0linux on Ubuntu, seems like an infinite loop occurs. (nevermind, I was just too impatient, wicked has a lot of entities)

Latest Xonotic autobuild (20240401) does not seem have to problems saving games on wicked with Ubuntu in the tests I have done.
Whatever caused the crash at the time of this bug report seems to have been resolved by some other change.
The provided wickedbugs.zip has a file s6.sav that the engine was choking on writing the wicked.bsp worldspawn (entity 0) field "WAD".

It still happens here. Load quick.sav , then try to save from that. The engine should crash. Not sure why I included s0... but saving after loading s0 will not trigger the crash.

Looks like vsnprint gets stuck in an infinite loop truncating a string 16384 bytes.

It is 16391 characters, exceeding the expected buffer size of 16384.
(Zircon engine on Linux doesn't have issue with saving that, I rewrote the save game section to put screenshots in the save game and made it use varadic expansion, calculating the required expanded string size, allocating a string of that size and then performing the varadic expansion in that buffer. I had to do this for screenshots, base64 compressed jpegs are still bigger than 16384. Just so happens it solved this one too as a side effect)
But better question, why is that string being encoded to such a size with the slashes.

It almost looks as if some function is duplicating the slashes (probably a well-intended fix for illegal/missing characters).
The number of slashes between the names is equal, so this is most certainly it.
The WAD string you commented on earlier "\editing\hammer\nar\apocrypha.wad;\editing\hammer\nar\armagon.wad;\editing\hammer\nar\bchess.wad;\editing\hammer\nar\dk" is probably the proper form.
I looked in the file and ran some tests. The slashes only expand during the LOAD function. So, you can save all day, and the slashes don't get expanded. However, when you load, the number of slashes in the wad variable doubles.

Checked and every time wicked is saved, then you load that save game ... the size of the string gets longer and longer.
So the encoding of the "WAD" string and the decoding of the "WAD" string are not equivalent.
The encoding/decoding is rather standardized ... something will come to mind as a way to fix.
The "WAD" field and the "message" field (the map title) are the 2 most likely fields in .bsp to have something nasty.
(Haha, I posted about the same thing, yeah the load function ...)
In a perfect world, that WAD field for the map wouldn't have those "windows slashes".
Still there no reason that a QuakeC string can't have a "windows slash" in it ... (github won't let me do the character in quotes)

I've just downloaded Something Wicked This Way Comes and played through several maps, saving and loading at various points. I had no issues saving and loading games, and the .sav files have the wad paths properly escaped:
"wad" "\\editing\\hammer\\nar\\apocrypha.wad;\\editing\\hammer\\nar\\armagon.wad;\\editing\\hammer\\nar\\bchess.wad;\\editing\\hammer\\nar\\dk"
@ITdevkc Is there a particular way to replicate the problem? Or is it possibly no longer a problem?

There is. From your post, it looks like the file was saved to once. The issue is that it compounds as it is saved and loaded into memory. This is more easily seen with quicksave/quickload.
To replicate:
In the console:
save quick.sav
load quick.sav
At this point, the save (quick.sav) should have a WAD entry similar to yours.
Continue:
save quick.sav
load quick.sav
save quick.sav
load quick.sav
save quick.sav
load quick.sav
save quick.sav
load quick.sav
You will notice the number of backward slashes doubles each time the game is saved. It is important that the most recent saved file is loaded, as the problem compounds after multiple load/saves to the same file.
Please let me know if you are unable to replicate the problems.
