[Suggestions] Search tool and List type (Persist preference change)

In my opinion, I don't see why having two search options on the home screen. sometimes I get confused and click on the search tab (top) and I don't have the option of filters. It would be better if the two were together, that is, remove the explore button and place the filter options in the search tab.

The list case I refer to the seasonal chart. I prefer the grid option, but every time I go there I have to change it because the linear option is permanent. It would be better if this option was fixed, like the anime list.

Why is there never a review?

I have been watching several anime or manga and the reviews tab always appears blank, I do not understand the reason why this happened, I suppose it will be a failure in the application.

Bug reports and some suggestions

Bugs:

Using the grid option, the progress indicator sometimes goes wrong (sometimes this gets resolved when I update the list).
When you press an anime tag, enter another anime for it and come back, instead of showing other anime with that tag, the app goes back to the original anime. Video for better understanding: https://youtu.be/e_cZxjWCv9g

The score distribution on the profile page is not very sure, it only shows whole numbers (even if I score an anime like 7.5). Also, when I reset my scores and update my data, my scores continue to be shown, even though my mean score is 0.0
The app does not show the following relations: Contain, Compilation (are considered as Other) and Source (considered as Adaptation)

Sugestions:

Option to hide the "Releasing Today" tab. The "+1" button is dangerous (i may accidentally tap it)
We have the option to hide the progress of chapters and volumes in the manga list, but we don't have to hide that of the episodes. It would be nice if there was too.
Add the other types of lists in other places, for example: in the list of other users and in the seasonal chart (it is only possible to switch between the grid option and the linear option) And it would also be nice to see these types of lists in the Explore tab as well.
In the social tab, our icon is circular. It would be nice to be able to leave it square, just as we can leave the circular icon on the profile page.
In the calendar tab, the options we choose should be permanent, sometimes I go there to see what anime launches today, but I have to disable the option "Show only Anime in your Watching and Planning list".

Okay, so I don't know if this is just for me and I've done something wrong but the social tab doesn't work for me at all. It used to but now it doesn't anymore.

Is there something I need to do for this to work again or...?

a way to show the series in the list with certain tag(s), in the same way that the genre filter does.

[Feature Request] - Disable / Hide Manga tab, overall experience

1. It would be nice if you could hide the manga tab / list in the bottom as an option in the settings.
Furthermore maybe a second option to hide the mangas in the Home tab as well. (Like trending manga)
(Maybe for only manga readers everything other way round too)
2. When clicking a trailer don't ask every time to open app/browser. Just ask once. (Maybe an option to change this behavior?)
3. When clicking through relations or anything and go back to the previous page. Let them be cached (reduce network load) and including the scrollposition of the site makes the experience smoother. (Maybe also as an option for those with low power devices / ram)
4. Clicking on the description of an entry could open it, instead of only the arrow. (Closing can stick with the arrow only)
5. While swiping sideways disable swipe down to refresh (reloading). (Noticed that till now only in the calendar)

everything pretty minor requests but I think it would increase the user experience and shouldn't be that hard to implement.

Adding New Entries

[List Order Suggestion] - Organize every "List's Filter Sort by" in Alphabetical Order as Anilist's Website does

This could help to find entries on "Planning" Lists (which, as someone is planning to watch them, is awkward to add a score without watching/reading the Anime/Manga) without having to touch the settings of "Completed" Lists.

Anilist 's Website already does it, it displays the "Completed" Animes/Mangas (or any other list with an Anime or Manga with a score) from Highest to Lowest Score (and by alphabetical order if it's the case) and the rest of List's are Displayed by alphabetical order (from A-Z), Here is an example:

And also as I said, if there is a list with entries with scores, organize the entries with the same scores by alphabetical order (A-Z), here is an example as how they should be: (the numbers show the position in which they should be placed from top [1] to bottom [4]

But this suggestion also applies to all Filters (see the attachment below), if there's more than one entry with the same "parameters" in order to be shown on that position, make them to be ordered from A-Z

I know this explanation may be a bit weird and confusing (Indeed, this suggestion is to set the order of the Anime and Manga entries as the Anilist's Website on Al-chan) and I may repeat some points over and over again, if you don't understand something, please feel free to ask :)

Issue with reaching Anime details page

If I didn't miss another shortcut to reach it, this is the only way of reaching the anime details page from an entry in your list:

It's a bit complicated from a user point of view having to go through multiple steps and clicking the title label of the anime from the Anime Entry editor activity

A solution to this could be:

Having long press still open, either the entry editor activity/modal
Having a standard/short press on the entry open the entry details activity instead of the entry editor activity
and last but not least maybe add a button in the anime details activity to open the entry editor activity/modal

This way there are still 2 ways of accessing the entry editor while keeping the anime details page still accessible in an easy and direct way

Keep up the good work on this app, I really enjoy it, the design is consistent and it's one of the most feature complete app out of all apps of this kind!

I'll gladly contribute more, even code-wise if you need a hand, once I manage to get some free time, since University tends to get in the way :P

Enhancements & Features Suggestions [Set status default to Planning & Better navigation in list]

Here are some suggestions for Al-Chan which I think that might be useful and improve the app:

When a new Anime is added to a list using the search tab, set the new default status to be added to "Planning" instead of "Watching" (in my case this would save some time when adding a new Anime)
When searching for an Anime, add the current status (in case it's already on a list) on the preview
The ability to jump between different types of lists (Watching, Planning...) without having to press the button (1st attachment) and then select which one do you want to access, this could be done by adding a new "tab/section" with the different lists in the top of the UI
An ability to schedule a change of Theme at the Morning/Evening, like Android 10 Auto Dark Theme

[Small Favor] Music Info Copy

Apply score system setting globally

Hi,
Currently you can choose various score system settings to your list, but this settings only applies to your personal list. It would be great to extend the chosen format to the rest of the app (Ex: when viewing an Anime info)

Features Request

add X Button inside or outside or beside the Search Pannel (so it is easier to erase the last thing i searched)
the Filter Choice "hide Manga/Anime On My List" is There Posibility that If I Add Anime/manga in my list it will automatically Hide... (Because it Remains Show until i Refresh)
In List Editor (how about Automatically Showup keyboard When it needs the it) because It Only Shows Up if You Click The Fill Up Blank)

[Feature Request] upvote/downvote Recommendations like in the website

So, as you may know, the Anilist website provides recommendations for anime/manga that you're viewing and also allows you to option to upvote/downvote (thumbsup and thumbsdown) the recs to let it know whether it is a good suggestion or not.

Would it be possible to integrate it into the app? Not sure if it is already present although I did check for it but in vain.

I've been using the app for a few weeks.

[Suggestion] Option to hide the score indicator

Hi, I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes I feel a little uncomfortable with "?" in the score indicator (sometimes I don't score anime, sometimes I do)...

I know that there is a way to hide the volume indicator in the manga list, so I think this option will not be so difficult.
By the way, when showing the score indicator, I think it would be better to just indicate the star symbol without this "?", Then when you edit, the score appears.

[Suggestion] Release app on F-droid

Hi dev,

I have been using AL-chan for a while now. I recently got to know that the app is open-source.
It would be really nice to see the app (without non-free dependencies) on F-droid repo. Not only it will benefit the users who only use apps from F-droid and IzzyOnDroid but it will also help you in reaching more users who can give their feedback and contribute in this app's development in some way or another.

Localization Platforms

It would be great if your project were added to some localization platform, such as Hosted WebLate or POEditor. These platforms have free plans and make the work of translators much easier.

Note: I saw in PR #12 that you do not plan to provide multi-language support at the moment because of several things and I totally respect that, I just ask you to take a look at these platforms (if you do not know them yet) and think about the possibility of using any of these for the translation of your project.

Persist anime/manga list filter across application restarts.

After the recent update AL-chan shows all anime/manga in your anime/manga list by default and there's no way to change it (permanently). Personally I liked the way AL-chan showed anime/manga list before the recent update I think it's cleaner/better. So it would nice if you gave users a way to choose default filter for anime/manga list or persist anime/manga list filter across application restarts.

(Suggestion) - Search by pressing a Tag on an Anime Page and Color Spoiler Tags

-When in an Anime (or Manga) information page, if you press a Tag like these:

I think it would be a good idea if they show Anime/Manga with the same Tag in order to easily find more anime

2 bugs (actually 1)

Skips update of last episode when automatically moving to completed

When you update your Anime with the last episode the "Do you want to move this Anime into Completed? " option pops up.
If you however choose "Move" the last episode won't get updated.
Means that in social there stands "Watched 1-23 of [Anime]" followed by "Completed [Anime]".
If you however choose the "Stay" option and then manually move the series into completed it shows "Watched 1-24 of [Anime]" followed by the same. (Assuming Anime has 24 episodes)
Shouldn't be annoying to fix, while also isn't important as it apparently doesn't affect you stats.
Apparently same with Manga and 1 episode Anime aka. movies as I just tested.

Weird score distribution visuals

(I failed. It's already known. I checked before for this issue and oversaw it. Now that i checked again I noticed that it was mentioned in literally the last post. The rest from here is skipable and only about the score thing. Have a great day!)

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature but I guess the first one as it's confusing.
If you go to your score distribution it shows your scores in a weird way.
I'll link 2 pictures to make it easier to understand.

It most likely has something to do with the 0.5 (as I vaguely recall testing that) but it's really weird if that'd be right.
It's as if 9.5 ~ 10 but at the same time 8.5 ~! 9.
2, 4, 6, 8, (10) and 1, 3, 5, 7, (9) are this way (actually I don't know if you can rate 0.5 so maybe 1 doesn't have this issue)
This makes the score look disproportionate.
Also this maybe is known already as its actually a bit older, sorry if it is.

Editor Custom Lists don't follow specified order

I have many lists in my anime and manga section and they're sorted in specified order of priority. I remember when it was working just fine, but for some time already they're just in order how they were added, not in a sorted one.

Despite being sorted correctly in the settings, they display wrongly in the editor.

Feature Request - Open in streaming app

On my phone, it looks like, for example, VRV has "vrv.app.link" as the supported link it's looking for to automatically open the link within the app. Is this something that can be leveraged to be able to tap VRV and have it automatically open the link in the VRV app, like it can with, for example, youtube?

For reference, in case this is just something not working on my ecosystem, I'm using a Pixel 4XL running Android 11 stock.

Custom Lists in List Settings not showing everything

Hi,
Just a couple of feature requests.

1red. Adding a slide bar for the scoring would be convenient as in the priority bar rather than typing in the number? Or perhaps like a drop box function?

2blue. Could you possibly implement an autosave function when going back from the editing menu? (Well personally I'm new to anilist itself so I'm adding a ton of anime and manga and I'm half the time forgetting to click save when I finish)

some 'corrections', bugs and suggestions [Share, UI/UX improvement, View all list]

Corrections

"Share Profile" copies the link instead.
When i open a user profile, click on the overflow menu and in "Share Profile", the profile link is copied to the clipboard instead of opening the share menu.
Click on "Follows You" to follow.
If i want to follow a user who already follows me i have to click on "Follows You" because the text "Follow" is overlapped by this other text.

Bugs

Some problems with the themes.
A • in the white theme, because of the shadow on profile cover, it is hard to see the buttons that are black.
B • also, the notification bar is completely white which could be transparent with the cover.
C • even changing the theme in the settings, the list remains with the previous theme.

A & B: buttons and notification bar.

C: "default theme blue" in "light theme red".

Suggestions

Remove "Ch." from the manga list.
the progress of anime episodes is shown only as "7/12", but the manga chapters are like "Ch. 125 /?".
Remove my score from a series.:
be able to remove my score for an series if i accidentally put a score before watch/read it.
Remove "Open Media Page" on list editor:
remove confirmation to open the series info page in Anime/Manga List Editor screen by clicking on the series name.
Search for series in all status on my list:
it is complicated to search for an anime/manga and switch from "watching" to "Completed (TV)", "TV Short", "OVA", "ONA" etc, just to find it.

5. "Negative" filter:
if possible, create a way to select an option in Filter (ex. Contry: CHINA) to be filtered from the list and Explore screen, to show all series without it. edit: just saw in twitter that this was added

[Minor Suggestion] Status Bar could be transparent

It would make page a bit more consistent if you saw the the anime background image color but a bit darkened, although I can understand the choice of keeping it like this to avoid readability issues

Oh yeah I guess I'll mention it: it's kind of similar to #10 although I'm using Android 9 and I'm looking for a behaviour similar to how it looks on apps like Spotify (if you look at the status bar it just is a semi-transparent black color that applies to whatever is below the status bar layer)

Edge to edge support

Hi,
You should consider adding edge to edge support to your app on Android 10+ devices, the app will look better specially with system gestures enabled.

[Feature Request] Automatic dark/light mode

Automatically changing between a dark mode and a light mode would be nice.

Options could be:
Single theme
-> choose theme

System-based
-> choose light theme
-> choose dark theme

Time-based
-> choose light theme
-> choose dark theme

Might even be quite useful having a light theme during the day for better readability, and a dark theme at night to reduce eye strain.

And Cannot be Added Until the Next Episode is Aired...

The app works fatal in landscape mode

I was curious to know how the application worked in landscape mode and I was very surprised, the application cannot be used like that, and not for reasons of design of the activities, etc.

If not because it gets super slow, I don't know how to scroll anywhere because it works with super lag, I don't understand why the truth is, you could try it too. So to know if it is just my phone or is it the application itself that has that failure that works super slow in landscape mode.

Custom default sorting method

When viewing anime and manga lists, content is always sorted by 'Score' by default. However, this may not always be the desired sorting method. This means the user must go to Filter -> Sort and change the sorting method every time they visit the list, because the default method can not be changed.

A possible solution could be to add a setting to customize the default sorting method on the "Customize List" page.

Feature requests [View all list at once]

Hi, I've been using this ap for couple of hours now and I'd like some features implemented, could you check out if these are possible?

Set a default screen on app open: I'd prefer if the app opened to the anime tab/screen rather than Home.
Add an option to view all anime/manga instead of just the 6 options (Watching, Planning, Completed etc.)
Search searches all anime and not just the ones in the current filter of Watching, Planning, Completed etc.
Make the selection box for the Media page larger: it is too easy to go to the edit details page because the hit box for going to Media page is very narrow (just the name of the anime) in the List view. Otherwise, an option to switch between opening media and editing pages on hitting the name of the anime would be appreciated.
If there are changes made in settings or list settings and the back button is pressed, please give a save settings dialogue rather than quitting without saving

Additionally does the app allow you to write reviews for anime? I can't seem to find this feature anywhere.

[Feature Request] Download Button of Anime/Manga/etc. Cover

In Anilist's website you can right click the cover of an anime or manga and select "Save as..." in order to download the cover, I don't know if implementing it in Al-Chan could be possible, but it would be helpful in order to share just the image using only a mobile phone, by the way, this could also be applied to Characters, Staff or even User Profiles, as nowadays we can only screenshot it or go directly to Anilist's Website to download it.

Or maybe it would be more helpful to have all the other actions when you right click an image on some kind of menu, but I guess it depends on whether it can be done or not.

Btw, thanks for this marvelous app, I'm really looking forward to 2.0 ^^

BUGS/REQUEST (I Think)

If I search the Anime/Manga with the Other Titles in Explore It will show the Anime/Manga But If I search In My Anime/Manga List It Wont Show And It Wont Search The Synonyms Of the Anime/Manga It Only Search The PREFERED Title..

And In Overview... In Anilist Home.. I WAS Thinking if I should Tell you This but... I Thinks It is Already Planned.. OR not Necessary
Put All Sort Order in Default List Order (I Think It is Planned)

Transparent background avatars display with white background

The title basically says it all, I have a png avatar that has a transparent background and this works well on the website which has support for transparent background although it looks like this on the app:

[UI-Bugs] - Redmi Note 7 [Overlapped text]

There are some UI Bugs on Xiaomi's Redmi Note 7 (Based on some screnshoots from other users I think they don't have to look like that), which are pretty annoying, the device has a FullHD+ 2,340 x 1,080 display and it's using MIUI 11 based on Android 10

In the image below, I have one Anime on Watching (or Current) and another one on Paused, so I think it's a bug as it isn't well displayed on the chart:
