When AAM disabled, Windows Standby does not work

I face following problem: If I disable AAM, then the Standby at Windows
Power Setting will not kick in, e.g., when I set Standby after 20 minutes,
it will not go to standby even after 20 minutes has elapsed. It will
function correctly again after I enable the AAM setting in quietHDD.
One more thing, if I left the status AAM disabled by quietHDD and return to
eeeHDD, the Standby will not work also, it will only work if I enable AAM
on quietHDD then revert back to eeeHDD.

The procedure entry point IsUserAnAdmin could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.dll.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run quietHDD on W2K Pro with shell32.dll version 5.0.3900.7155

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Running the program results in the fatal error "The procedure entry point
IsUserAnAdmin could not be located in the dynamic link library
SHELL32.dll." The program then terminates.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
quietHDD 1.5 build 250

Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 4
with SHELL32.DLL version 5.0.3900.7155
all updates applied

Please provide any additional information below.
A quick check with Google seems to indicated that earlier versions of
shell32, like those found in Windows 2000, do not correctly implement
IsUserAnAdmin.

Uninstall quietHDD

Hello,
I feel it as simple as running the exe, there is no installation to do. And
therefore no uninstallation.
The program does not launch when you execute the exe, it's just?
So the changes made through the software (AAM enabled, for example) are
not permanent? And it must be run each time in order to apply the changes on
the HDD? Right?

Thank you for responding.

joe

Provide a way to save options across reboots

What's missing is a way to preserve options across reboots.
I always have to launch quietHDD again because my settings are not persistent.

Maybe you could implement either a windows service.

Thanks for a great little utility. One minor request... well two really.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select Disable APM
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the tool to give me the option to "Enable APM".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest

Secondly, is there a Linux version of this? I noticed the problem in Ubuntu as
well. BTW, I have an ASUS 1015PED eee netbook with a WDC hardarive (not
Seagate) and it has the same issue. I'm really surprised ASUS does not have a
firmware fix for this.

QuietHDD has exited after wakeup

What steps will reproduce the problem?
I am using Windows 7 64 Home Premium on an ASUS UL30VT-A1. I have task manager
set to run QuietHDD at startup, whether the user is logged in or not, no stored
password, using /NOTRAY. QuietHDD does start on system startup and is
effective. One other reason I use task manager is to bypass the UAC prompt for
QuietHDD that otherwise can't be automatically bypassed without disabling UAC
because QuietHDD is not digitally signed with a certificate from a trusted CA.

If I put the system to sleep QuietHDD seems to stay running (I've tried a
handful of times). If I wait for the system to go to sleep per power management
settings when I wake it QuietHDD is no longer running and the desired APM
setting is no longer in effect. I can't tell what caused it to exit, there are
no error windows.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Build 250 Win 7 64.
