Currently I rely more on autocomplete than on raw searches, and it's very minor, but it's slightly messed up my browser workflow (and I still would rather this than the default new tab page).

Browser:

Microsoft Edge
Version 98.0.1108.50 (Official build) (64-bit)

OS:

Windows 11 Pro
Version:	10.0.22000 Build 22000

Steps to reproduce:

• Set new tab URL to https://start.duckduckgo.com/
• Open tab with CTRL+T
• Cursor first goes to the address bar and then immediately gets captured by the search engine search box

I don't have time in the next day but perhaps Friday I have a moment to look at the code / browser API myself.

Getting the following error when trying to use the extension.

File not found
It may have been moved, edited, or deleted.
ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

If I open a new tab the focus is in the tab, like when browsing to a new page, however, I would prefer to have the same behaviour like the original new tab page: The focus stays in the addressbar to directly start typing.

Would be a great enhancement, if possible.

I use a local file for my "home" page and the redirect.js (line 9) sets the href property which prevents using values like the following:

file:///C:/_data/home/home.htm

I think that if you change the line to the following, it supports a wider range of URL's:

return document.location = localstorage.url;

Does Edge offer anything like this, to allow automatically inheriting the homepage button setting, so that if I change my home page I only need to change it in 1 place?

It looks like the latest release zip includes the zip files for older releases, in addition to the expected /src directory:

Not much of an issue, given that the required files are still there.

I just noticed this option: Enable auto-highlight/select URL on new tab load:
It's great but can you add the option to automatically delete the url after highlighting it and keep the focus there?

I want a new tab to open a local html file, using the file:// protocol. However, when I do this in this extension, is says:
"If your URL is a local file then you will have to enable the "Allow access to file URLs" permission for this extension:" and has a button below it that says "Grant Permission"
When I click the "Grant Permission" button - it just takes you to: edge://extensions/?id=oeibmbobgpgnbnlbaffdgebpeepfbnhi
which is the "Installed extensions / Custom New Tab URL" page, and I see nothing on that page to enable granting of permission.

In Edge on Windows 11 you can no longer set the sites or permissions for this extension. As a result, setting the new tab URL to a local URL (example: file:///E:/home.html) causes the extension to open a blank page. At least the blank page is still better than Bing or the default crappy Edge new tab. I have edge open file:///E:/home.html on startup and have it set as the home page with the home button shown on the tool bar. So, opening the local URL is a 2-step task: open a new tab that is broken/blank the click on the home button. I imagine before too long we won't need a keyboard or mouse. We'll turn our computers on and Microsux will just operate it for us and we will just get what they decide to give us.

So, I downloaded this plugin and used it in avast secure browser. Now it works fine, until I try to set the new tab page to chrome://new-tab-page. When I did this, it just opens a blank new tab page.

I have a non-hosted html file that I use for quick access to specific links. This file is stored on my PC.

Example: 'file:///Z:/Links/Public/links.html'

I have a bookmark with this page and set at the page to open on start up with no issue. I did want to set this as the 'new tab' page and found your extension. It doesn't seem to work with local files. Can this be changed?

I added www.duckduckgo.com, now when I open a new tab the url for the page is set to

Great job, folks, especially for those who want to use this to create a clean empty new tab (about:blank). One negative, though: the extension does not cause the cursor to be placed in the address bar, so that one can type a new URL. That's indeed how all other "new tab" features in browsers work (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.)

It's a minor thing, sure. But for keyboard folks, being able to do ctrl-t (open a new tab) and then start typing a url--without touching the mouse or tabbing or using a keyboard shortcut to go to the address bar--would just really be the icing on the cake. :-)

I appreciate everyone has their pet features, of course--and being open source code, "anyone can make a pull request". I'll not be digging into that myself, so if this doesn't capture the fancy of anyone who may be willing, I realize that the idea could die on the vine. Just wanted to put it out there, as a first-day user of the extension. I'll disable it for now, as having the new tab be that blank page in Edge was my only reason for using it, and this lack of the cursor being on the address bar is not a cost worth the benefit. I'm sure it is for many, so again thanks for it.
