Amphetamine no longer turns on MacBook

Hi Amphetamine Team,

First of all, congratulations for your victory over Apple. I'm relieved to hear that the Apple team now better understands your product so that users can continue to reap its benefits.

Now to my issue. I've always scheduled Amphetamine to keep my MacBook alive Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 6pm. Prior to upgrading to Ventura, I knew that even if I was a little late to my office, my computer would already be switched on (and thus it would appear as if I was hard at work) thanks to your trusty little app. However, since upgrading to Ventura, my computer does not automatically turn on at 8am despite all settings staying the same. It does, however, stay awake once I've manually woken it up, but prior to the upgrade everything was automated.

I tried scheduling my Mac to wake up at the set time with Terminal, but Mac requires users to run as root in order to modify such settings. Since I'm using a computer provided by my work, I don't have the ability to run as root.

Can you perhaps look into this issue? I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

(I posted this on Hacker News too, but figured you might not see it so I’m putting a copy here.)

I do app review policy for iSH, which went though a similar situation recently where we managed to convince Apple that they had misinterpreted their review guidelines. If you’re looking for help to get Amphetamine approved as it should, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I’d be really disappointed to see Amphetamine lose its years of brand value over such a petty review decision.

Sigh, this is disappointing. I’ve been using Amphetamine for years and it’s quite literally one of a handful of utility apps on the App Store that isn’t a scam or neutered by the policies of the store. Apple was right to recognize it it in the past, and they are wrong today in their reinterpretation of the guidelines.

thank you

Just wanted to say thank you.
I use your app every day.
It is awesome and well designed.

Spread the word on the fediverse

Ever considered talking about this on the fediverse? I'm sure you'll be well received there, as there are quite a lot of activists like yourselves fighting against corporate injustices such as this. Here's a link. There are around 4 million people on there, which may help your cause.

I think you mean ADD not ADHD

I think you mean to say ADD instead of ADHD as the H in there means Hyper-Activity where the person can't sleep and those meds would make the condition worse. People with ADHD are advised not to take anything such as caffeine or energy drinks.

A blessing in disguise!

Let me explain why this is a blessing in disguise:
"Amphetamine" is literally true. Amphetamine keeps a computer as well as a human up all night! The description of this is a literal truth, and nothing in the program or using it opens up the interpretation that using Amphetamine to keep a computer up all night is bad for a human. I'm guessing the relative effects of keeping a computer up all night is under the discretion of its user. It is false and arguable in the court of law that an amphetamine software that keeps a computer up all night cannot be used the same way as an amphetamine that keeps a human up all night. Software and drugs are not the same thing.

Perhaps a counter lawsuit should be filed against Apple for implying it is selling fruit!

Thank you for standing up and not changing the name! This is a very destructive culture war that has been waged on us by forces unknown to those who wage it.
