can't use Mercator projection to find midpoints on the globe

Look for point halfway between (say SFO and London). Should be somewhere in
the arctic.

For a test, find two cities (North America and Europe perhaps) for which
there's an airport midway on the geodesic route but not on the rhumb line

Try San Francisco - Perth, too.

VisitME does not return results for some people

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Unknown

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Some users are not seeing normal results.

Notes:
- We believe this is due to some Facebook permission glitch affecting some
fraction of users.
- No other leads at this time.

air fare disclaimer when driving

Ask VisitME about a nearby friend.

You see both

You are close enough to drive to Henrik Volckmer. Would you like to rent a
car?

and

*The fares displayed include all taxes and fees for economy class travel
and were found by Kayak users in the last 48 hours. Seats are limited and
may not be available on all flights and days. Fares are subject to change
and may not be available on all flights or dates of travel. Some carriers
charged additional fees for extra checked bags. Please check the carriers'
sites.

Also: the "rent a car" is a link, as it should be, but doesn't look like one.

Some day you can give a mileage estimate too.

Visting your own application tab

What steps will reproduce the problem?
I have current location set to some other location. When I click my own
application tab, it gives me result saying "You can visit you in XYZ for $913"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should not produce any result when I visit my own profile application tab.

Searching for friends in towns and cities with no airport.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Search for a friend who's location is in a suburb or small town.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The application should find the nearest airport and do a query based on that.

Failure responding to a visitme suggestion from a friend

What steps will reproduce the problem? Not sure - here's what I did
1. Logged in to facebook
2. Saw a suggestion from Henrik that I do something like respond to a
visitme request.
3. Clicked on it.

Don't know what was supposed to happen but this is what I saw:

The page you requested was not found.

You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address. Some web
addresses are case sensitive.

    * Return home
    * Go back to the previous page

The back button doesn't seem to take me back to exactly where I was, so I
can't see what the page looked like before I clicked, nor can I try it
again. Logging out and logging back in again doesn't help.

mmhw failed to recognize an airport

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to mmhw
2. enter LNK for airport 1
3. SFO for airport 2

 What do you see instead?:

Error message:

Invalid airport 1: Lincoln, NE - Lincoln (LNK)

Note: When I tried to reproduce this problem the error went away. So you
probably won't be able to reproduce it. But I did see it ...

dates from each end to halfway don't match

The cheap flights Kayak finds from A and B to (A+B)/2 may very well not be
available on the same day. That makes MMHW essentially useless, except as a
hook to get people to visit Kayak (which may in fact be the whole point).

At the very least, MMHW should parse the dates and warn the user when
there's no overlap.

Frankfurt halfway from Tokyo to San Francisco

Summary line says it all.

Analysis: don't use the other midpoint (halfway around the great circle
going the other way) unless the source and destination are nearly
antipodal. Rely on incrementally increasing the search radius around the
near midpoint instead. In this case I think that should find Hawaii (if
there is a direct flight from Tokyo).

Note: This came up in class last week. It may already have been addressed -
but even if that's true, it should have been entered as a bug/issue first.

wiki promise broken

The page

http://code.google.com/p/visitme/wiki/Instructions

promises

Once we reach a stable state we will provide a downloadable package,
complete with source code and an API for developers to customize the way
their application looks and performs.

but I don't see anything like that on

http://code.google.com/p/visitme/downloads/list

You should honor the promise or retract it - preferably the former.

(This happens very infrequently)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Your friend and you live in cities with the same name, but in different
part of the world

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

information. Instead it returns nothing.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Searching city-city flight info via canvas page as well as application tab,
when only one-way info is available.

Incorrect mapping of destination airport

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using the search box on VisitME canvas page, search a friend whose
current location is set to Acton, MA.

ago $319" where BFD aiport is in Pennsylvania state.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

VisitME doesn't know where I am even though I told facebook

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Log in to facebook
2. try visitME tab from profile

well. In any case the exclamation point is tacky.

Flight information is unavailable! you's profile does not have current
location set.

internationalization not quite done

1. Change language to French
2. Try VisitMe
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected to see only French. The prompts in the main window were right
(enter a friend's name was properly translated) but this was in English:

 Henrik Volckmer
You are close enough to drive to Henrik Volckmer.

And the button still said "Go"

I suspect that the correctly translated stuff came from facebook.

I can imagine that I18N is not high priority, but it should be interesting.
What does your client want?
