If you are running on Oracle VM VirtualBox, you have to install vbox-extpack on Host O/S to find /dev/video0. Check out your VMWare version and download *.vbox-extpack from here.

@niklasjang I am confusing now. vbox-extpack looks like for virtualbox. Can we install extension packs for VIRTUALBOX into VMWARE?

In my case, I should add decodebin before converting video
gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src name=cam_src ! decodebin ! videoconvert ! videoscale ! video/x-raw,format=RGB ! queue ! videoconvert ! ximagesink name=img_origin
