Bountiful Foraging

A mod for The Long Dark, by Hinterland Studios, that adds new ways to find food and useful materials in the wild. Open to suggestions!

Usage

Find new sources of food.

Crush halite with a hammer, and use it to salt meat. After a day, meat will be cured, and will last longer.

New sources like carcasses, beehives or bird nests will spawn in the world. Explore Great Bear to find them.

Installation

• Download latest Bountiful_Foraging.zip file in releases, unzip, drop both .modcomponent and .dll files in the mod folder and enjoy!
• For CandleLight lovers, do the same as instructed above, but with the latest Bountiful_Foraging+.zip.
• Requires ModComponent and all its dependencies to work.

V.1.0.0 (Base):

• Fir cones now appear everywhere. Harvest them to obtain its seeds, that you can roast for a light snack, and use the rest as fuel for your fires.
• Bee hives can now be found in every region, a rare sight in the middle of winter. Harvest them to obtain honey, a good source of energy that never expires. Be careful, as thes might be hidden away or in dangerous spots.
• Crows might die sometimes. You can find crow carcasses around dead bodies or other carcasses. Harvest them to obtain their meat and a bunch of feathers.
• Bird nests sometimes fall with its trees. You can break down these nests for a few sticks, and if you are lucky, you may find eggs that you can boil and eat.
• Orcas may get beached on the coast, and some of them are becoming food for other animals. Harvest ravaged orca carcasses, obtain meat and blubber from them.
• Find Halite (Salt rock) in coastal mines and caves. Crush halite with a hammer to obtain salt.
• All meats now have a "salt" button. If you have enough salt, you can salt the meat. Leave the meat indoors for a day and it will cure. Cured meat last twice as long as its cooked counterpart.

V.1.1.0:

• Frontier Comforts' salt is now compatible with salting system. Salting system will always pick crushed halite over salt.

• Ptarmigan meat can now be salted.

• You can now turn crushed halite into salt.

• You can now craft fir seeds bundles to cook them in batches.

• Halite chunks are rarer now, but little halite pieces will appear now in caves (renewable).

• Coal chunks can now appear in some mines and caves. Break them to get several coal pieces.

• 2 new rare secret decorative items that spawn in the wild.

• Crow carcasses, fir cones and halite pieces spawn % can be tweaked via ModSettings.

• For CandleLight users, Bountiful Foraging+ let you obtain fat from orca blubber and wax from bee hives.
