coffeecamcontrol's Introduction

CoffeeCamControl
================

This is a small server/client application written in Java. Its purpose is to
allow viewers to write text messages onto a running VLC webcam stream via VLC's
marquee function.

The server connects to the VLC remote control interface on localhost, port 6321,
and accepts multiple incoming client connections on port 1236. The client
application can then be used for limited, user-friendly control over VLC, such as
sending messages and taking snapshots.

DISCLAIMER:
The initial version of this software has essentially been whipped up in a lunch
break or two and just cleaned up for release a little. It is probably buggy and
exploitable and should only be used in a safe environment.

To use, start VLC on the server machine with the following parameters (edit as needed):
vlc -I rc --rc-host 127.0.0.1:6321 --sub-filter=marq <stream_source> <etc>
After that, simply start the CoffeeCamServer on the same machine.
Before building the client, don't forget to set the server IP in the config file.

The server implements the CoffeeCam Control Protocol described below.

CCCP - CoffeeCam Control Protocol - Revision 1

Handshake
Upon connection, the server sends the challenge "Coffee?".
This has to be responded with our trademark one-eyed CoffeeCam smiley "o-)"
	to establish a connection.

Commands
	COMMAND SERVER RESPONSE DESCRIPTION
/ccsay <message>	[CCOK] or error Prints <message> onto the stream
/ccaud <message> Returns the number of connections
/ccget [CCRET] <message>	Retrieves the last message
/ccsnap <none> Sends "snapshot" command to VLC
	/ccdisconnect <none> Closes the connection

The server part is inspired by the following Online Tutorial by Dr. Herong Yang:
