Probably the app should use the new v1 API.

Don't use system() in unpack and merge

Right now you need

tar that decompresses automatically (recent GNU tar or bsdtar)
cp
rm

Which may or may not come with your operating system.

Git::CPAN::Patch is not mentioned in SEE ALSO

The CPAN module Git::CPAN::Patch, especially its git-backpan-init command, is doing similar things like your app. I think you should compare both, and add a note to the SEE ALSO section of the cpangitify Pod.

cpangitify v0.16 is giving me this:

and it crashed. It seems like a JSON handling problem. Please look into fixing it.

write a simple test

Right now we just check the compile of App::cpan2git, but there isn't even any code in there yet.

Write a simple test that does a conversion, maybe using Test::LWP::Recorder or something.

handle distros with multiple names in history

possible solutions to this problem include allowing the user to specify multiple distros on the command line.
