Centos on Odroid C2 using Ubuntu image

Maybe you can help me - my Centos on C2 is not booting.

What I did

Step 1: Download the CentOS 7 AArch64 userland tar archive

Downloaded CentOS-7-aarch64-rootfs-7.3.1611.tar.xz

Step 2: Prepare the target media with a formware-only disk image

Downloaded ubuntu64-16.04.2lts-mate-odroid-c2-20170301.img, flashed it to my eMMC 32GB Module

unxz ubuntu64-16.04.2lts-mate-odroid-c2-20170301.img.xz
sudo dd if=ubuntu64-16.04.2lts-mate-odroid-c2-20170301.img of=/dev/sdb bs=4M status=progress && sync

wiped out the root file system contents, but leaving untouched:

suggestion for the centos on odroid c2 wiki

Very nice writeup. I had one minor suggestion for it that simplifies the losetup step. I'm somewhat partial to using kpartx which handles identifying the partition offsets and makes the device available via loopback. There's an example of using it in the README at http://mirror.centos.org/altarch/7/isos/aarch64/ReadMe.txt

Centos on Odroid C2

Second: I just want to share my experience with Centos on a ordroid C2.
Third: I’m just an enthusiastic amateur with limited experience of the hole RHEL family.
(So for all readers beware: I’m not sure the following is completely accurate.)

I found the Archlinux-Arm (Alarm) the best base to merge with a Centos rootfs. It comes with a initramfs instead of a initrd. Dracut happily plays with this Alarm initramf. Downside is complicated updating of the kernel, the init ramfs is created during the update of the kernel. Especially with a eMMC module.
My workaround is a “multi” boot setup containing a boot partition (u-boot and the kernel) and multiple partitions with rootfs’s. by editing setenv bootargs in boot.ini you can choose which distro starts (root=/dev/mmcblk0pX). One of them is arch-arm where the kernel can be updated, then you must distribute the kernel modules to all other partitions/distros.

IMO It’s recommendable to disable kernel updates if you use the rootfs provided by Alternative Architecture Centos SIG.
