Terraform Provider for BlueCat Address Manager

A Terraform provider for BlueCat Address Manager. Curently the provider is able to work with IPv4 Addresses, IPv4 Networks, and host records.

Currently, the provider does not have working tests so it should probably be considered beta.

Building/Installing

The provider is now available on the Terraform Registry so you probably don't need to build the provider.

That said, running GO111MODULE=on go get -u github.com/umich-vci/terraform-provider-bluecat should download the code and result in a binary at $GOPATH/bin/terraform-provider-bluecat. You can then move the binary to ~/.terraform.d/plugins to use it with Terraform.

This has been tested with Terraform 0.12.x and BlueCat Address Manager 9.1.0.

terraform-provider-bluecat's Issues

Block creation unsupported

The API to create a block is practically identical to creating a network. Would it be possible to duplicate your function for that purpose?

Data resource uses hinting to search

If you have a network which is built semantically on block divisions:

  • 10.0.0.0/8 (Block)
    • 10.0.0.0/16 (Block)
      • 10.0.0.0/24 (Network)
    • 10.0.128.0/16 (Block)

A hint-based search on a host (10.0.0.1) is always going to refer to the network when you may want one of the blocks instead.

Could the data resource be based upon the searchByObjectTypes(cidr, type, 0, 1) instead?

Move parent_id_list logic in bluecat_ip4_address to new separate resource

I'm thinking this should work more like random_shuffle does and be implemented as a separate resource from bluecat_ip4_address.

Essentially, give the resource a list of network names or IDs and then return either a random one with a free address or the one with the most free addresses. It would then have a keeper value that could be set if selecting another network is desired for some reason.
