Spike on Adding end2end testing with TestContainer and Playwright
A missing piece of our toolchain is a good approach to end-to-end testing.
I suggested incorporating Cypress, but Bryan suggested Playwright instead:
The AC for this issue is:
- There is an example of how to do end2end tests (using Playwright) starting with our demo-spring-react-example repo.
The "right" way to do this seems to have something to do with "TestContainers", which have something to do with Docker.
This is everything I know right now.
Try to add eslint back into the workflow and into the CI/CD checks
Improve react useBackend error handling
The PR: https://github.com/brownfield-team/kanban-populator/pull/36/files has some improvements to the error handling for useBackend.
Please consider making these changes in the dsre codebase also.
Try to add CSV download and upload somewhere in demo-spring-react-example-v2
Add Cypress support
Make all the backend code and example code in the STARTERs for team01, team02, team03 correspond to the new model of todos from dsre-v2
Add simple smoke test
It would be helpful to have a simple smoke test to build on
that checks whether the home page loads successfully. It doesn't even need to log in—which is part of the biggest challenge with setting up integration testing. Just needs to see if the entire mvn spring-boot:run
can load without crashing, including building and launching the frontend.
A simple test that the "brand" and "navbar" are present would catch errors where the database fails to load, because there are errors in entities and repository files (that are not caught at compile time, and may not be caught by unit tests.)
Try yarn instead of npm as package manager and see if it works any better
