If the problem occurs only with spheres, then the relevant file is probably GimTrimeshSphereCollision.java. Otherwise it could be anywhere else (AABB checks, space collision, ...?).
I think this is a known bug, even in the ODE C/C++ version, so it may be hard to fix, i.e. not just a type, but a conceptual problem with the trimesh collider.
Most definitely, ODE has a problem when colliding with heightfields, whoch also tend to let objects fall through. So the problem may be somewhere in ODE/ode4j, not in Gimpact.
But any contributions are highly welcome.
