Might be a better idea to use Elixir for the daemon as we'd need to be doing a lot of magic multithreading to handle connections and processing. There isn't too much code in common with the client and server to make it worth being a single language. But then we wouldn't have as much fearless concurrency meme credit.

The protocols are also going to be simple enough anyways (a la memcache, redis, etc.). Simple enough that you could foreseeably write it in Bash using nc and the rest of coreutils.
