is this for the frontmatter? the issue about tag pills is that they start looking very unsightly once it wraps a long-ish tag

It's not for YAML. It's just that it may be useful to have the capacity to change styling for tags in Style Settings.

sorry for the late reply - would it be possible to elaborate? Unfortunately I don't use enough of Obsidian to know where all the tag placements are, even for Willemstad 😂

Just for tags in the body of the text, it could be possible to style tags so that their text colour and background can be customised.
