It may be a better idea to hash the answer to the security question as well.

Edit: I realized that the problem is on - and –. The app does not accept –, but the documentation quick summary is using it (before phone). Maybe your team can improve the parser to handle these scenarios though, or update the documentation to avoid confusion.
