eventful-react's Issues

Autobind listener callbacks to the component where they are defined

React autobinds methods to component instances to avoid having to add .bind(this) all over the place. It's a little unexpected that eventful doesn't do this, so that the only place .bind(this) is required in a component definition is for the eventful listeners. Instead, listeners should be autobound to the listening component instance as well.

Add support for .once and .off

  • .once: like .on but after the callback has been triggered by an event one time it is deleted.
  • .off: takes an optional event name and callback -- if an event name and callback are supplied, remove the callback from listening to the given event; if only the event name is provided, remove all callbacks from that event; with no arguments removes all eventful callbacks for the given component.

Add an error for name collisions with eventful methods

Name collisions currently occur silently (no error until the method in question is called and something unexpected happens). During bootstrapping (in createClass) an error should be thrown if the component definition has a .emit or .on (or .once or .off when those are added) method defined.

Add a more meaningful error for when listeners are added in componentWillMount

Right now when listeners are added to componentWillMount instead of componentDidMount, the error is:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'callbackStore' of undefined

Not very helpful for developers using eventful. It should be able to realize if callbackStore doesn't exist for a component, that a listener is trying to register for a component that hasn't rendered yet, and throw an error with a more descriptive message.
