Add-ons for Tablacus Explorer
Hi Gaku,
Per my other issue I indicated I would open this issue separately. It consists of two request items that go hand-in-hand:
What I am requesting you consider is an addon that is almost identical to the new Junction addon that looks ahead to locate the target of that selected item to then populate the item column. It would do the following:
Space Free
strictly for container (drive or directory) items and leave it null for file items. In other words, pre-fetch what the "Size Status Bar" would produce if the user navigated into the selected container item, and use that prefetched number for the new Space Free
on it saving the user from having to go into that target to view it's free space. This would be a perfect companion to the Junction target for folks that have lots of either local or remote mapped drives, junctions, DFS, etc. to be able to quickly look at a list of remote junctions and add that new unused column to their view and instantly see each target's free space WITHOUT having to navigate into every single target one at a time and looking at a status bar but instead for the FIRST TIME in any explorer replacement, see it in an actual proper column.
As a secondary addon that compliments the "Space Free", a pretty simple addon I can think of that is surprisingly still missing from TE that would also require this exact same "lookahead" code is one that:
Boy, if both of these were added but coded to be true "examples" taking time for lots of extra code comments and structuring it in a much more verbose manner I know it will almost definitely ensure I can begin contributing compatible addons and PR's, and I would bet I would not be the only one! Given how similar they are to the Junction target link lookahead and literally use pretty much all existing major methods I'm guessing this would be very easy and quick for you and if you do please consider doing a bit of hand-holding and adding the additional code comments etc. as you know as a DEV it really does go a long way in understanding other DEV's code. :)
Thanks!

On some add-on configuration pages, TE should refresh the record contents when the current selection is changed after:
Such add-ons include:
Example 1:
Current selection:
After Down arrow is pressed:
The record details part still shows the previous record.
Example 2:
Current selection:
Click "Remove"
Reply OK
The record details part still shows the deleted record.
Hello,
Both addons work correctly individually.
But when a link is captured, with 'Open Instead', it fails to show the parent.

Is it possible to get an Inner Delete that works for the files that are within the pane?
Hello,
When I download new version of tablacus
And try to install the plugin 'Tab Parent Folder Name'
It shows version 1.00
In older tablacus and github repository version is 1.01

Hi Gaku!
I have become a number one fan of Tablacus! I wanted to open this feature request because you have accomplished adding the Directory Size (total) the way it should have always been but has been missing from every version of Explorer. Along the same lines is the set of extended NTFS attributes such as reparse points (junctions/symbolic links etc.) which I see you already have coded to be detected perfectly using the "colored with attributes) which very quickly colors all my junctions.
So, since that code can easily color them, there are a couple other explorer replacements that can display indicators for junctions which would be better than nothing, but MS has always had an Explorer column titled "Link Target" that of course is NOT for junctions, but if Tablacus could add 2 columns with an addon like this as an example similar to how you implemented the "total file size" column:
EXAMPLE REPARSE TYPE: S=symlink/J=junction/H=hardlink
Name | Size | Type | REPARSE TYPE | REPARSE TARGET |
---|---|---|---|---|
Data1 | File Folder | |||
Data2 | File Folder | J | D:\Data | |
Data3 | File Folder | S | E:\Data | |
ReparseFile.txt | 100kb | Text File | H | D:\File01.txt |
NormalFile.txt | 10kb | Text File |
Adding not only the ability to quickly see a list indicating the type and more importantly the target of the links, but then utilize the built-in column sorting to be able to in a click see all junctions sorted to the top or sort by the link target would just be amazing.
Hopefully you can see the value in this and will consider adding it to Tablacus as I have seen many posts from people asking how to enable this in Windows Explorer and I would love to be able to give them yet one more reason to switch to Tablacus! Thanks!
Dear @tablacus ,
I think it would be great to have an add-on to automatically check for updates of Tablacus and of add-ons themselves.
For example, at Tablacus launch, or at a given periodicity (every 1 day, every week, etc.).
What do you think about this ?
Thank you very much and have a great day !
This add-on worked at the beginning. Then I disabled it for I thought the built-in "tree view" seem to be better (at least, the latter can be resized horizontally by mouse drag).
Recently, I managed to make "Preview" work in the left sidebar. So I need to have one and only tree view in that sidebar, too.
I enabled "Side tree view" again, set its height to 800 in its options. But now I get a large area which is completely blank above the preview.
Firebug lite shows: <div id="sidetreeview" style="width: 100%"/>
Is there a way to always load a particular layout when opening Tablacus?
Hi Gaku,
"after a longer time" ;-)
With fresh updates (TE64 and addons) addon Font Settings works for details view, tab text, menu headers and statusbar.
It is not working here for treeview, menu entries and text in history tab (great new thing, btw, thx for!)
System is Windows 7 x64

Please help to solve the problems. Thanks.

Hi,
I'm using tabplus addon, and I'd like to open new tabs that show the list of devices, just like "My Computer". Is there an option to set the default for new tabs? Thank you.
Hello,
The new tab button allows to duplicate a tab. When the addon speed dial is installed, it open instead recent directories and we loose this option.
Is there a way to add in the contextual menu of tabs an entry "Duplicate tab" ? Perhaps include this in the speed dial addon ?
Thanks.
Running Windows 10 Pro with all the latest updates
Tablacus Info
Selected file pressed F2 to edit tried appending the "Old".to file name.
Press enter reverts back to original file name.
Also tried using right mouse menu with same results
Installed ReName Dialog Box Add-On
Selected file Pressed F2 get this popup
Rename didn't work here either.
The lists look just random.
Even when I know exactly what add-on to look for, I will have waste a lot of time comb a list, sometimes doubt myself if that add-on is really there.
Too bad.
Please, a simple sorting by name can save lives.
My imagination goes not far enough: What is it good for? :)
(Didn't find any description so far in wiki or penflip.)
Thx once more for best file browser ever!

I am developing a wfx plugin to access the files inside a HDFS cluster.
The wfx plugin is 100% c code developped with VS2008 (thus very small: less than 200KB).
I love "Tablacus Explorer" because it's very compact, very beautiful and very customizable.
My wfx plugin is nearly working OK inside "Tablacus Explorer": i.e. The only things that needs improvement is the "file copy" operation (between HDFS and the local File System). i.e. When I copy large file like this (1.7 GB):
...the interface "freezes" for a very long time. That's not ok.
Can you display a "progress bar" inside "Tablacus Explorer" (it's important when copying large files between HDFS and the local File System).
Thanks a lot for your help!
Frank
Hello,
When I open a folder which duplicated tab, it gets closed, and focus on the already open one.
Would it be possible to move, that already opened tab, to the end of the tab bar or to the position of the closed tab? Like a recently opened tab.
So if there are 30 tabs open you will know that you are working on the most recent one, instead of getting transported to the middle of other unrelated tabs.
Can be a optional configurable setting
Only if tab not locked maybe

Lino
Hi,
When clicking on drive button add-on icon, i have the following error
Line: 32
Erreur : Impossible d’obtenir la propriété « length » d’une référence null ou non définie
which can be translated by something like : "Impossible to recover the propriety 'lenght' of a null reference or not definied"
Any known issue or solution ?
Thanks. For the rest this is a very great job.
Hi Gaku,
I was finally able to properly configure this addon after you got the doc added (thanks!). It looks like it can handle PART of what I had hoped. I am ultimately trying to simply duplicate (as closely as possible) the functionality of the tabbed explorer addon/replacement (old) named Clover. As did many others, I only ever found the early versions of that app usable (3.0.46 was last good version). Anyway I finally just recorded a quick ~1 min video capture of the bookmark dropdown functionality I am looking for in Tablacus. Can you help me to get there? It looks like this folderlistmenu most closely provides SOME of the functionality but not all whereas the favorites and linkbar also provides only some. I am looking to place not only shortcuts, but folders and app links in the fashion shown and drag and drop optional but as you can see makes things very nice.
On a side note, I am still trying to get Tablacus' tabs to look like these using the tabdesigner addon!
Thanks!
Example
Actually the prompt at step 4 is redundant and should be removed. If a user wants to abort any change, he/she can click “Cancel” at step 3.
This problem is found in 2 add-ons:
Please help to solve this problem.
This is not so much an issue in that it doesn't work. It does work pretty good and opens with all the tabs that were open the last time you closed tablacus.
However, I couldn't find any setting to turn it off. Often I want to have a fresh, clean workspace when opening the application. Maybe I have simply missed something in the files...
Hello,

In regards to the Virtual Recycle Bin Add-on. Right now the only way I see to empty it is to open the folder and select all and delete.
Is there a way to make a tool bar button that would allow us to empty the virtual recycle bin?
Thanks!

Recently used this plugin : "recently closed tabs", it seems not working ...I try to download a new file test, is the same ... Is there a problem?
I've been using te140203 with tabgroups_104 plugin with no problem.
Recently I renewed my TE to te140615 and since then it seems tabs do not work correctly.
One of tab pages turns gray, displays no icons and stops accepting all my input now.
The odd behavior is reproducible with the following simple procedure:
Right-clicking on tabs fails to show any context menus when:
I've been using MDIE for very long time and when I discovered TE, I was excited for the latter is as powerful but much newer in both time and design.
However, since I unzipped TE and clicked its exe, after half an hour, I'm still in the Get Add-ons tab in Options window and haven't begin to really use it!
Too many add-ons to learn and check.
Each has only an insufficiently short desc. So I have to click the link and open a webpage for more details, nearly every time.
When using MDIE, I feel like using Firefox. But TE, something that has add-ons of Chrome but starts as weak and incomplete as IE9.
I love the idea of add-ons but have enough pain to read all those add-ons in the too long list.
Someone comes to get "yet-another Explorer alternative" software because they have significant common and frequent demands that Explorer fails to satisfy. They won't expect to start an alternative only to find it feels so close to the Explorer and hides so many features away while they need these features at the beginning.
I think Total Commander can be a good example:
It starts with many features that Explorer doesn't have. Many of them are not necessarily useful to everyone, but as long as a user falls into its main target user group (I guess, "command"-oriented computer savvy), he/she will be very likely to use most of such features. And as to those features he/she doesn't need, he/she can just ignore them.
I bet TE's main target user group will be like me who prefer MDIE's similarities with Explorer and wanting some nowadays de facto standard features like multi-tabs.
TE does have some add-ons ready to enable. However, the list is way too short and these add-ons are way too basic.
For example, one will soon realise there is no icon nor close button in a tab, and he/she will have to search in Get Add-ons and get "Tab Plus".
Oh, and how can one re-open he/she just mistakenly closed tab? Get add-on "Undo close(d) tab"!
Seriously?
One more example: if users have come across the random problem (or rather, bug) solved by "Take over folder view settings" or "Fix selection on sort", how many of them will realise an add-on might help them, and how many will bother to search and get it? Then how many of them won't complain "why not just fix the bug out-of-box and save me from all these trouble"? ... while the rest will guess it's just their bad luck and continue to suffer the incertain bug.
What's the point of such abstinence, assuming TE's the majority of users will be totally OK with only a dozen of extremely basic add-ons?
And what's worse, as a result of blindly checking/enabling a lot of add-ons, I find some seem to have bugs or conflicts, which adds more trouble and push me even further away from a happy start of use.
Firstly, I recommend extend the list of "ready" add-ons and enabled most of them for any new user.
As long as the list is considered with common sense and a little boldness, no user will hate you for doing so even if there is one or two features are not very appealing to them.
Furthermore, you may provider a few built-in collections (or rather, presets) of add-ons for many, if not most, users to quickly learn, choose and enable.
For example:
TE is not a famous title yet. It has great potential but it needs to be more welcoming to and ready for new users.
Even a better-tool-manic like me will find half an hour of getting stuck in "Get Add-ons" is intolerable.
Please think over.
PS:
If you are still busy developing and consider TE in alpha, could you provide an edition (say, "ready-to-go-and-stable-but-not-very-updated" edition) shipped with many of the features available so far without bugs and conflicts etc?
I have encountered a few and have great difficulties combing the long list of enabled add-ons.

Hi - although "administrative tools" can be reached by going through the control panel folders, for me it would be very useful for it to be directly in the list of folders in the systemfolders add-on.
Tablacus is excellent by the way. 👍

On my Win7 box with Internet Explorer 10, almost all operations of dragging and swapping positions of group tabs fail with an error dialog "Object doesn't support property or method 'preventDefault'".
After updating to IE11 all has come to work fairly well so it has to be relevant to some IE compatibility issue.
Hi,
I'm using tablacus splitted into 4 views. I have installed various "inner buttons" addons, like inner back, inner forward, inner address bar, etc.
Is it possible to create a "inner favorites button" ? A new addon that installs an inner button for each splitted view (in my case 4 buttons). When clicked it shows the favorites menu (the same for all 4 menu)
Thanks.

Many addons after years still have absolutely zero documentation not more than a single line of hard to understand text, so we have to read source code to try to figure out how to configure them, let alone what some of them even do. Even the wiki does not mention or show many in the list, and other than their one-line description there is nothing but the actual code.
Such as Folderlistview
What does this entire addon even do? I've read the code multiple times and still trying to even determine the purpose.
Is there anywhere that has even a real description and a single screen-shot of ALL the add-ons and even a single example of proper configuration? I realize you are busy and translating to english many strings, but things like this make no sense to many of us (and I've been a developer myself for 30yrs) and have been lacking this documentation now already for years that TE has been growing in popularity.
Several addons such as the "Remember Folder" addon have this as parameters:
(Advanced)
Normal
Path
Key
What on earth is "normal", "path", and "key"? I love the features/functionality and your work, but it is becoming very frustrating because many of these it seems only you (the author) know the purpose and without us being able to decipher your source code it would just be nice to know how to properly configure all these amazing addons! Thanks!
