Hey I just stumbled upon this repository and wanted to say that the artefacts in the alps are actually intended behavior. As far as I see it the dark areas are just elevations with heights that exceed what can be stored in the green channel (I guess > ~3300m) and therefore they appear darker.

According to https://github.com/mapbox/mbtiles-spec/blob/master/1.3/spec.md a MBTiles

The metadata table is used as a key/value store for settings. It MUST contain these two rows:

name (string): The human-readable name of the tileset.
format (string): The file format of the tile data: pbf, jpg, png, webp, or an IETF media type for other formats.

format is currently missing

I'm a absolute newbie when it comes to docker, but I've been stuck with the docker create . -t rio command.
HOWEVER docker build . -t rio WORKED for me. I guess this is me suggesting an edit? 😬

Hi, I use my DEM generate from Drone using OpenDroneMap. After that, I use gdal_warp to re-project my DSM to EPSG:3857 and transform the greyscale data into the RGB data using rio-rgbify and last step i use gdal2tiles.py to generate xyz tiles. But i got error when add tiles layer to Mapbox GL JS as the picture shown below.

A huge amount of tiles do not contain any data. In order to speed up the process of tile creation and to save lots of space we should skip all areas that do not contain any elevation data.

rasterio has been updated to a new version, so we should update all tools to their current version.

Since MapBox also provides tiles with a size of 512x512 pixels we should also show how to create those.

By default, 256x256 tiles are returned. You can use @2x to request 512x512 tiles. Requesting 512x512 tiles is sometimes preferable as it means fewer total requests over a given area.
