GOV.UK Prototype kit

Go to the GOV.UK Prototype Kit site to download the latest version and read the documentation.

About the prototype kit

The prototype kit provides a simple way to make interactive prototypes that look like pages on GOV.UK. These prototypes can be used to show ideas to people you work with, and to do user research.

Read the project principles.

Security

If you publish your prototypes online, they must be protected by a username and password. This is to prevent members of the public finding prototypes and thinking they are real services.

You must protect user privacy at all times, even when using prototypes. Prototypes made with the kit look like GOV.UK, but do not have the same security provisions. Always make sure you are handling user data appropriately.

pricing-calculator's Issues

Tick a few more boxes on the "value" proposition - on pricing page.

On the pricing page we could extend the list
In order to compare the two, you need to consider the effort and time required by your team to manage and run the environments, like patching operating systems, managing backups, maintaining logging stacks, monitoring the infrastructure and reprovisioning your apps.

(If I had to kill one of these it would be "reprovisioning your apps", if I was only allowed to keep one it would be "managing backups")

Showing prices of individual database instance options

Currently when a user selects a "light-20GB-relational" Postgres their costs will go up by £36.64. However, if they've already added app costs in they've got to do the arithmetic to work out how much the various options are increasing the price by. We also know that there's an expectation of a pricing table.
Is it possible to show the prices alongside each instance option?
light-20GB-relational (£36.64)
light-20GB-HA-relational (£73.29)
etc
Do only postgres if this is gruntwork.

Explain multi-AZ, bring in some other content that's gone adrift from my spreadsheet that was removing previous 'grit' we saw users feeling

Need to find a place to say the following things:
Multiple app instances are automatically balanced across availability zones.
Load balancing is automatically provided by the platform and included in the price.
Bandwidth of up to 10GB/month is included. Please use the calculator to price the rest of your services and contact us to discuss higher bandwidth needs.

In the worst case, I guess you could put them in the second paragraph about environments?

Show more support model on pricing page

I wonder whether we should be even more explicit about our support pricing and add an extra column: "Platform support charge | N/A | 20% | 55%". That might reduce confusion.

Clarify who and what we mean with "Support plans"

Change h2 to "Service team support plans" - makes it clearer we're not doing end user support.
Perhaps at the end of that paragraph say "You remain responsible for product and end user support."

This estimate assumes constant usage at the levels you've provided. Final figures will vary as CPU/Postgres/MySQL are charged based on hourly consumption and exchange rates will fluctuate.

Support is based on total usage above a minimum figure, so adding extra environments may increase platform support costs.
