iPhone SMS Extraction Script

This Mac OSX bash shell script is designed to extract text messages from the most recent iPhone backup. The text messages are exported in plain text to a CSV (comma separated values) spreadsheet. This spreadsheet can be opened in Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and most other spreadsheet software available.

Usage

  1. Connect your iPhone
  2. Make an unencrypted backup of your iPhone to your computer using iTunes
  3. Download the zip file and extract the script
  4. Run the script by double-clicking getiphonesms
  5. A file called text_messages.csv should be created on your desktop
