palguybuddydude

A go service that uses palworld-rcon-buddy api to ping for player info and notify discord whenever players join or leave.

Dependencies

• docker

Configuration

• clone the repo
• cp .env.example .env
• replace DISCORD_WEBHOOK_URL with your discord webhook url
• palworld-rcon-buddy can be configured in docker-compose.yaml

Usage

• docker-compose up -d

Upgrading

You can upgrade by pulling the latest code, stopping the service, rebuilding the image, and starting the service again.

git pull origin main
docker-compose stop
docker-compose build
docker-compose up -d

How it works

The service uses the palworld-rcon-buddy api to get the player list and then compares it with the previous list to see if any players have joined or left. If any players have joined or left, it sends a discord webhook notification.

palworld-rcon-buddy is ran via docker-compose.

palworld-rcon-buddy implements its own rcon client, which worked much better than other rcon clients I tried, including gorcon/rcon.

palguybuddydude's Issues

pulls steam username instead of player name for the first few seconds

when someone logs in and their steam username is different than their ingame name, the bot double posts by posting the steam username as the first player joining, then it gets their actual ingame name and then posts their ingame name as another player joining, then it posts the steam username as a player that left.

it gets a bit confusing as it makes it look like there are multiple people joining the server
