clusterviz's Introduction

ClusterViz - Cluster visualization tool for Status cluster

Clusterviz visualizes the real state of Status p2p cluster (only nodes we deployed) using WebGL.

demo

Installation

go get github.com/status-im/clusterviz

Usage

First, you need to have an access to Status cluster. Ask you-know-who or hack servers. You should be able to talk to our Consul service to query nodes. Then simply run:

./clusterviz

It will print something like Starting web server on :20002. Point your browser to the IP of the server you're running program on and abovementioned port.

If you just want to hack on UI part without actually talking to servers, use -test flag. It will use sample data for testing purposes.

See -help flag output for more options.

FAQ

  • Q. Why is it private repo?
  • A. There are some sensible enodes information in test data, need to be obfuscated first.

clusterviz's Issues

Implement an algorithm to check connectivity in our cluster

Problem

We would like to monitor if connectivity of our cluster is correct.

Solution

I played with some graph algorithms and figure out that we can describe our cluster in three states:

  1. green -- means that cluster forms a biconnected graph which means that even if one of our nodes goes down, our cluster still stays connected,
  2. yellow -- our cluster forms a connected graph, however, there is a threat that in case of a single node failure it stops being connected,
  3. red -- our cluster is disconnected.

Due to the fact that we run multiple Whisper nodes on a single server, connectivity should be checked on server and node levels (does a single server failure break the connectivity? does a single node failure break the connectivity?).

Ideally, we should do that for the whole cluster (both DO and GC fleets) and for each fleet separately. The latter in case one fleet is unavailable in some country or the DC goes down.
