Contributors' guide:

Making small changes (updating meetup changes)

1. If you are member of our github org, you should be able to use GitHub UI to edit the text files (index.md, oldmeetups.md). This should be easy enough.
2. (Assuming you know what you are doing.) Fork the repository, edit the *.md files in your favorite text editor, commit changes to git, and PR / push.

Major contributions

Like changing the website format etc: Please make a pull request.

Anything else or not sure about something

Please create an issue.

Running locally

If you want to build the site locally to test your changes, you need:

• Git
• Ruby 2.1.x or higher
• bundler (gem install bundler)
• run bundle install
• run bundle exec jekyll serve. you should be able to view local website at http://localhost:4000

Manchester is home to the Kernel project, which is broadly Rationalist/SSC-aligned and focuses on the neglected practical side of rationality. We also have a large grouphouse in Levenshulme that is owned by a project member, spare rooms currently available, spare couches always available.

Incidentally, I found the main meetups webpage ( ssc-meetups-community.github.io/meetups/ ) very confusing. It doesn't make sense for a new prospective attendee to have to scroll down through several questions aimed at organizers to finally find the instructions "How to use this repository?...Press Ctrl-F in your web browser". It should be right at the top, not below the fold!

Los Angeles Meetup Details

Location: Wine Bar next to the Landmark Theater in the Westside Pavilion (10800 W Pico Blvd #312, Los Angeles, CA 90064).

Time: 7 pm (Every Wednesday)

Parking: Available in the parking lot for the entire complex. The first three (3) hours are free and do not require validation. After that, parking is $3 for up to the fifth (5) hour, with validation.

Contact: Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/lw-socal-announce), personal email (bobert.mushky (at) gmail.com). Use either to request an invitation to the Google Hangouts group we use for live updates (though meetup/topic announcements are posted every week to the Google Group, which sends out email notifications if you join).

We've had successful meetups every Wednesday since April 5th and plan to continue indefinitely.
