laconic_hover's Issues

TV Tropes just overhauled

TV Tropes just had a major overhaul, which apparently has made this add-on not work anymore; it perpetually says "Loading…"

I wouldn't recommend trying to fix this immediately, because the overhaul broke so many things internally that there is probably going to be a lot of hotfixing over the next few days (maybe even weeks?). By the time all is said and done, maybe this add-on will be working again. But once things have settled down, if it's still not working, then I guess it'll need to be updated.

Does not handle redirects well

Title.

Steps to reporoduce:

  1. Find a page where there is a link to a page that redirects to the main trope.
  2. Hover over the link
  3. Redirect is shown, but Laconic description is not.

Example, this is from hovering over the link to Omnipresent Trope (which redirects to Omnipresent Tropes) on the page Spoilered Rotten

Suggested fix: if Trope.title contains 'aka: ' use anything after before this as the title when looking up the Laconic description

Edit: Fixed suggested fix, had the two halves swapped

Invalid charset

On hovering over a link, it says "Loading..." but does nothing. On inspecting the console, it says invalid charset. It seems that the charset extracted from http headers is misleading for TextDecoder. Does hardcoding "UTF-8" fix it? Worked for me.

[path] is not a valid URL

Not sure why, but the extension is no longer working for me. Whenever I hover over a a link, instead of the laconic text it just shows me the URL path (e.g."/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Trope") followed by "is not a valid URL."

Pop-up frequently gets cut off at high zoom levels

When at high zoom levels the pop-up seems to default to opening above a given link the vast majority of the time even when there's not enough room above it to actually show everything. In contrast opening below it in this sort of situation (or just in general in my experience) tends not to get cut off.

For example this screenshot shows the issue. There's more than ample room below the link but not enough above it yet the pop-up still appears above the link.
