Deprecating Commissions

The Commissions will not be returning and no new episodes will be made. The question is how to preserve and archive the existing commissions and ensure they remain available. Some options:

• Super-easy option: simply remove it from the nav and homepage; URLs continue functioning
  • In that case do we add a notice to Commissions pages that new ones aren't being made?
• Create an Archive section of the site where we can retire content over time? This won't be the last thing that we try and don't continue.
• Some other option I'm not thinking of.

Add featured images to Editions

Custom Post Type "Edition" Currently doesn't include featured image. Switch on. Co-creators will have to backfill content.

Non-responsive element on /commissions page

The blue button underneath the YouTube player on /commissions is not responsive, so the right hand side is cut off on small screens. Refactor to fix overflow issue.

Implement skiplink for accessibility

Deprecate "Participate" page

This is still under consideration.

New Livestreaming section

Co-creators request a new section to view livestreams of conferences or performances or other events whose parameters we don't yet know.

Remove Facebook Like button on homepage

Add donate link to menu

Gallery for Tableau Portraits

Adrienne has requested the Tableau Portraits be moved on to a separate page with a gallery, so that users do not need to go to the Experiments page to find new images

Refactor CdnCult times

to be more tolerant of variable-length preview text

Fix $text_domain error in functions.php

$text_domain is throwing an error in wp_debug.

Time of day & time zone data on author page outputs incorrect values

Time intermittently displays incorrectly, and I suspect ignores time zone information.

(Worth asking whether this information is strictly necessary.)

Author pages max out at listing 10 contributions

There aren't many makers who've written that much, but there's no navigation to go to a second page of articles on author.php

Creation of Theatre Wiki

I think this should probably be split off to a different repo.

Removing extraneous css and js

The site is still loading typography.com stylesheets even though the font is no longer in use. Must tidy up unused resources.

Embedded tweets cause homepage cards to overlap

This has to do with the order that head.js loads the scripts — probably also why the layout doesn't trigger for everyone all the time. It needs to load the Twitter widget script before Isotope reorders the cards, so that it can account for the added height.

No 404 Page Template

404 errors provide no helpful information.

Main navigation menu doesn't render on author.php

This may be sporadic or not. Only just noticed it.

Thought Residency box on homepage code makes no sense

It's based on an old container for something that doesn't exist anymore. It was originally .jillian-form, but now it's got a different purpose. A new form on an old function and they don't make sense together anymore. Refactor! It still works but it's an ugly fix.

Creating a user is unneccessarily a two-step process

User fields like Bio and Twitter handle etc. are not available on initial user creation. It would save time to make it available at that point.

Adding new Podcast section

Must contain multiple podcasts, so that we can remove podcasts from /experiments.

Add article featured images on edition pages

single-edition.php doesn't include featured images, but it should. (Similar to how they appear on page-cdncult.php).

Links pointing down a directory

Any links that use the "/" structure automatically point down one directory (I believe because my copy of wordpress is in a subfolder?). This is why the main area links weren't pointing correctly for me.

Colour overlay on CdnCult animated gif icon overlaps imperfectly and it's always bugged me

Depending on screen size, the randomized colour overlay that appears on top of the gif of the printing press is often slightly too large. I've never been able to get it to size properly.

Automate it to pull in recent page additions. RSS > JSON via YQL, put in homepage box

Photos for contributors on /makers

All contributors already have headshots in the system.

Create SpiderU page

Image Map with pictures of University doors, obvi

Improve related posts on /cdncult articles

At the moment we use YARPP to add related posts at the end of articles. Co-creators prefer that articles reference their sibling Articles from the same Edition.

This functionality should be doable via the WP-Types plugin, but I've never been able to get it to work properly.

Create The Vault section

A vault page that lists links to all archival material, wherever it is online

Logo change

The random multi-coloured sticks generative logo thing is to be removed and replaced with a static logo that gives the site a firmer identity.

Integrate Talk Show and The Elder Project into a general Video vertical

Similar in structure to Sound

Add image headers to site verticals

Responsive breakpoints have disappeared

At some point the responsive breakpoint has...broken. Check at smaller screen sizes and it no longer switches to alternate menu layout. Haven't looked carefully, but perhaps something with the menu rejig?
