ossfoundations's Introduction

OSSFoundations

Results of our analysis on Open Source Foundations.

This project hosts a website that helps you to list, filter and query the list of Open Source software foundations studied in our paper titled The Role of Foundations in Open Source Projects, published at the Software Engineering in Society track of the International Conference on Software Engineering in 2018 and then extended in A Survey of Software Foundations in Open Source.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Under development

This repo and the website are under development. We would like to make such updates more accesible and also provide a Web API to manage the list.

We would also invite you to report any fix or request via the tradicional GitHub issue mechanism.

๐Ÿ‘ช Contributing. Help needed!

We would like to keep this list as much updated as possible so feel free to propose new foundations to be added (or propose corrections to the current ones).

Currently, we do not have specific workforce to develop this project so we do it in our free time. We would appreciate any help you can provide.

If you are interested in contributing to this project, please read the CONTRIBUTING.md file.

Subversion Corporation is gone

Subversion Corporation dissolved as an independent entity when it joined the Apache Software Foundation. As best I understand your criteria - current legal organizations dealing with FOSS software - this entry should be deleted from your dataset.

Better way to mark defunct organizations

Currently you mark some orgs as "DISSOLVED" in the legal field but maybe that should be a separate field.

You can also add:

  • Mambo Foundation
  • LogiLogi Foundation
  • Open Health Tools
  • Open Media Now! Foundation

global scope of KDE e.V.

KDE e.V. is marked as not having global scope. We do however support contributors from all over the world and our software is used all around the world.

Remove dead org URLs that redirect to gambling sites

I would recommend removing or somehow very clearly marking URLs of apparently-dead organizations that now redirect to gambling sites. While this is not necessarily an indication the organization is dissolved, it's a good clue. More to the point, we probably don't want to send anyone to gambling sites unexpectedly!

http://www.openmedianow.org/ currently redirects to emccan-dot-org
http://www.csol.org/ contents are now an online casino guide at same address
