Markdown Handler

This little script adds an Apache handler that lets you view Markdown files with a .md extension more prettily on your webserver.

It's based on a PHP Markdown implementation by Michel Fortin.

Installation

• Copy .htaccess to your root, or update your httpd.conf file with its contents, if you prefer.
• Ensure that mod_rewrite and mod_actions are enabled in your Apache server:
  • sudo a2enmod rewrite
  • sudo a2enmod actions
  • sudo systemctl restart apache2 (apply the changes)
• Copy the markdown directory into your webroot.

Now visit a .md file on your webserver; you should see it as properly styled HTML.

Why does handler.php check the file extension?

Why does handler.php check the file extension? Isn't this redundant, because the AddHandler only acts on '.md' files anyway?

Solution:

Edit /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-autoindex.conf (or equivalent) and remove README*

restructuredtext support rst files

Is there the possibility of having support for files with rst extension?

index.md Handler

I wanted the file index.md to be served up automatically. I added the following line to my .htaccess file.

DirectoryIndex index.md

There hasn't been any activity here for 5 years. I might fork it and make changes. I'll send pull requests if there is any interest from the main dev.
