MediumDesk

MediumDesk is a simple app that lets you read and write Medium stories when you are at your desk. Developed by Medium enthusiasts

Download

(Current version : 0.2.1)

OS X (10.9+)

Linux

Windows (7+) - Coming Soon

Features

The goal of this app is to purely extend medium.com's experience into desktops. We don't intend to modify/replace any behavior. For every feature we add, we ask ourselves "Would Medium do it, If they built a desktop app?".

  • The first goal is to be able to use medium.com without any issues in it's own window. So it is always accessible through your Applications folder, Dock / Task Bar, Search. To find your draft, you don't have to dig through browser tabs anymore.
  • Native Menus & Shortcuts for commonly used functions (Cmd N / Ctrl N - New Story, Cmd F / Ctrl F - Search Medium, Cmd 0-7 / Ctrl 0-7 - Home, Drafts, Public Stories, Stats, Bookmarks, Publications, Profile, Settings.)

Coming Soon

  • Import file from disk...
  • Back & Forward within the App
  • Open in Browser
  • Pin pages to keep them open
  • External URLs show a top bar similar to medium

mediumdesk-v1's Issues

Read out Stories

Read out Stories. It will miss images and other media content. But very helpful for busy people. Optionally Stories can be converted to audio and posted as podcasts, so people can listen in their existing players. We can start with the different home page topics as different feeds. Then we can get more into customization.

Sign in with Email is not working

Sign in with email doesn't work because we've to open the URL in browser and it signs in medium on the browser instead of the app. I think this will be fixed if we make links of medium open in app ?
They are of the following form:
https://medium.com/m/callback/email?token=abcdefghi&source=email-abcdefghi-auth.login--

Find in Page

Provide a way to find any text within the current page

Navigation to previous page needed!

Hey!
I have been using MediumDesk for a week now, and I must I say I love it! It is absolutely wonderful to be able to access Medium directly from the dock. The UI is seamless and it an absolute delight to read articles.

But my only problem with the entire app is the need to go to home every time I need to navigate back to the previous page. It really hampers the experience and flow of energy. I understand this is a community driven project, but I hope you are able to solve this asap.

Thank you for making this app! I use it everyday, and am loving every minute it. Haven't been on the website since downloading this.

Cheers!

Create or edit article don't work

System

  • Running on High Sierra MacOS (10.13.6).
  • Downloaded the MediumDesk current version (0.2.1)

Actions

  • I can read my draft, but it is locked. I can't edit the article.
  • I don't have a New story on menu (like the browser version), so I can't create a new article.
  • Cmd N redirect to the home page
  • Scroll on some pages doesn't work (example: my draft article)

Am I missing anything?

Organize Stories

Organize published articles and drafts in Google Drive fashion so that publishers can manage their complete flow from here.

Quick Access Drafts

List drafts somewhere it is easier to access instead of loading the drafts page. It will also help switching between active drafts.

Sync Drafts to Disk

Store drafts locally. Third party apps can access these files and analyze written text to highlight issues in their own view in realtime. Eg Grammarly, Hemingway, Expresso

Open in Browser (Button + Shortcut)

There should be a way to open the current page in the default browser. This feature will come in handy for users when they want to bookmark/share/apply any browser plugin to this page. It will also give them a way to keep it open for continuing later.

MediumDesk not working in Mac M1

Following is my environment. I see a blank screen after logging into the MediumDesk. I tried looking for the option if I can enable Rosetta and open but didn't show. Is there any brew option available so that I can build locally.
