website's Issues

Add forum mention

I will make a PR soon

Why it is important?
For now this forum is not really popular, so it’s better to increase it popularity. That’s why:

  • It is open source. Users who care about privacy will like this.
  • It is not filled with Microsoft tracking (GitHub owned by Microsoft so Microsoft can track your activity on GitHub)
  • Some users don’t want to use GitHub because it is flagging accounts created with SimpleLogin alias. It is totally privacy intrusion.

blog/email-alias-vs-plus-sign addendum

I think a good one to mention on email alias vs plus sign blog page would be:

Some medium sized companies don't support sending emails to Plus-addresses, however they will allow you to enter the plus-address email in their system, thusly causing you to loose access to your account.

Notably most Canadian banks and Canada's Interac E-Transfer will allow you to enter Plus-addresses, but just won't send emails to them.

My insurance company and utility companies also had this issue. It was a pretty big deal-breaker for the plus method.

Time to updated the privacy policy again.

Hey @nguyenkims, i guess it's time to updated the privacy policy again to add the following: zendesk.com, postmarkapp.com, report-uri.com, upcloud.com, nginx.com, ubuntu.com, hstspreload.org, postfix.org, https://upptime.js.org services to the third party services selection and to also mention the CCPA (General Personal Data Protection Law) & LGPD ("General Personal Data Protection Law" aka "Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais"). :D

Translating to Spanish

Are there any plans to translate the website into Spanish? If so I can help if needed.

Simplelogin.io is extremly slow

Hi,
Simplelogin.io is mostly extremly slow.
Also I am getting many timeouts.
The site is often not reachable for several minutes.

Do you currently have issues with the servers?
According to your uptime monitor, the response times are really terrible.

Thanks and regards
Hyper

Change your "Which OS to choose"

It seems extremely biased and the Linux portion of it is very wrong. Saying you shouldn’t look into Linux if you can’t use a terminal or that if you’re not very knowledgeable about tech that it isn’t the right fit for you is straight up wrong and dishonest.

Some distributions have very noob friendly experiences and do not require the use of the terminal or any advanced knowledge about computers or tech

Docs: footer link redirection

The link to the documentation in the footer of your website redirects to the SIWSL section instead of pointing to the welcome (homepage) page:

~ curl -I https://docs.simplelogin.io/
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
Server: nginx/1.16.1
Date: ... GMT
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 169
Connection: keep-alive
Location: https://simplelogin.io/docs/siwsl/intro/

grafik

That probably shouldn't be the case.

Outdated Proton branding

Proton's branding on the SimpleLogin website is outdated in some places. Except for the first point it's just the usage of "Protonmail" or "ProtonMail" instead of "Proton Mail", (or "ProtonVPN" instead of "Proton VPN" in one blog article).

On the main homepage:

  • Outdated logo in step 2. of "How it works"
  • "Works perfectly with Protonmail" should be "Works perfectly with Proton Mail"

In the Blog:

In the documentation:

A few more can be found here.
On top of that I found outdated logos in this repo, like this and this, but I couldn't find where they're being used on the website.

[UI Improvement] Deleting notification re-directs to SimpleLogin Homepage

EDIT: Realized this is the wrong repo.
When I navigate to my notifications, I have to click on each notification individually to delete. After I delete the notification, I am re-directed to the SimpleLogin homepage.

If I have multiple notifications, I have to do a lot of clicking to delete multiple notifications. The best experience would be the ability to bulk select notifications and delete them all at once. Alternatively, the deletion should re-direct back to the main notifications page.

SimpleLogin website not loading properly

simplelogin.io does not load pages, but only when I'm connected to my Wi-Fi. Sometimes the website will let me log in, but further actions are impossible and I'll be met with error messages on my browser.

Using a different browser does not fix the issue. The problem occurs all the same if I switch device (smartphone, laptop). Using a VPN or mobile data on my phone fixes the issue and the website runs smoothly.
I have already tried changing my DNS IPv4 and IPv6 through my OS settings, so this leads me to believe it's either an IP issue or something I'm unfamiliar with.
I've already opened a request (825) on the main website a week ago but I haven't seen any progress and considering this is a major issue I think it's fitting to open one here. I wasn't able to find anyone else having a similar experience, but I hope it can be resolved.

Add a button for the referral dashboard

add a button in settings or somewhere on the page for people to refer other people. such as me i have a ref link but don't know how to access the dashboard again lol

Request - Scheduled Disabling

I'd love to be able to schedule when an address is disabled.

EG:
I buy a product from some rando website.
I need emails about my order for the first 2 weeks.
Then I never want to hear from them again.

So when I create the alias I'd love to be able to just select the date for it to be disabled.

Typo on homepage

There's a typo on the homepage:

What you can you with SimpleLogin

I'm assuming this should be "What you can do with SimpleLogin"?

I'm not familiar with static sites, so not sure if simply changing this line is the way to fix it...

Change "More" button to "Less" when alias card is expanded

Currently, when a user clicks the "More" button on an alias card on their dashboard, it expands to show additional information, but they still have to hit the "More" button to close it back up. Can the text be changed to "Less" when opened?

Save dark mode setting

Hi every time i login into my account i have to switch the theme to dark mode. I would be nice if this setting is saved.

simplelogin.io blocked by nextDNS Threat Intelligence Feeds

Apparently, during the last few days simplelogin.io somehow got into the Threat Intelligence Feeds on NextDNS, blocking request for everyone with that feed enabled, which seems a little unfair IMO. Perhaps it's worth reaching out to next DNS and request whitelisting the SimpleLogin?

Replace PrivacyTools References with Privacy Guides

The PrivacyTools team has archived the privacytools.io GitHub project and is moving to @privacyguides, for various reasons. The announcement can be found on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PrivacyGuides/comments/pnhn4a/rprivacyguides_privacyguidesorg_what_you_need_to/

There are references to PrivacyTools at

<a target="_blank" href="https://www.privacytools.io/providers/email/#cloaking">

The current limit is 25MB. For large attachments, we suggest using a file upload service and send the link instead. You can find some file sharing services that respect our privacy on <a href="https://www.privacytools.io/software/file-sharing/">PrivacyTools</a> <br>
that should be replaced with https://www.privacyguides.org/providers/email/#cloaking and https://www.privacyguides.org/software/file-sharing/ respectively.

Here's a replacement logo which can be used on light backgrounds:

privacy-guides-200x200

"Privacy Guides" branding does have a space in it.

Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions.

TOTP

Hi! I cant assign a TOTP on the app. I have to enter the secret key manually into my app (KeePassDX) and when I try to put in the TOTP code into simplelogin settings it just keeps giving me "Incorrect token".

Has it something to do with KeePassDX or is there something wrong with the secret code?

CAA DNS records - Unneeded ones & Missing ones

On the Security Page it is stated that "All SimpleLogin certificates are issued by Letsencrypt."

Upon looking into this, I found the comodoca and digitcert.com are also listed on the domain.

I'm unsure why this would be. Google transparency report shows that these CAs have never issued certificates for simplelogin.io.

From what I can tell, these CAs aren't needed and are currently providing an attack vector :)

simplelogin.io
simplelogin.co
simplelogin.fr
slmail.me
All contain the same unneeded records for comodoca and digitcert.com

8alias.com
dralias.com
aleeas.com
8shield.net
All don't seem to have CAA records (I don't know if they need them)

Affiliate program?

An affiliate program would be awesome.

The big password managers have affiliate programs, making it very easy to promote their products in dedicated tutorial videos.
